"Epitaph One" only cost half as much as a normal episode, though, so it wouldn't break the bank for Fox if they wanted to show it.
I think Joss knew when he shot the episode that it might have to serve as a sort of epilogue for the series, and if Fox wants a season 2, it would be too much of a momentum-killer. I think if there is a season 2, they might show Epitaph One as a special sometime over the summer, or maybe just before season 2 starts. If there isn't another season, Fox may air it as a sort of consolation prize for Joss and the fans, to help blunt the twitstorm of criticism they'll get for cancelling the series.
Either way, I think we'll probably see it on the air.

It'd be nice to see it aired, if only to let the public see all the hard work Joss and the crew put into making it. With that said, I could live with waiting for the DVD release to see it, especially if the episode doesn't fit well as a season ending. From everything I've read Epitaph sounds more like a series finale than a jumping off point for a new season. Perhaps FOX is holding back the episode until they make a final decision on Dollhouse's fate. You know covering their bases in case they bring the show back for another season.

I don't think that the screencaps were from this ep. Reasons in spoiler tags, just in case. Epitaph One is supposed to take place some 30 years or so in the future. I think I remember reading that none of the regular cast appear in it. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that the caps are probably from ep 12: Omega. |

'I'll tell you what. I'll shoot a post-apocalyptic thriller that's all on our sets in six days with a cast of four other people, then we'll pepper it with different bits from our regular cast, and we can do it all during the schedule. It'll cost you half. I can do this.'

At the Paleyfest Joss said it's going to be a challenge figuring out what to do if the show gets a second season. This episode is canon, but what about a portion of the audience that didn't buy the DVD? Looking at the pictures, it seems like a lot goes on. If it gets a second season, I hope FOX will air it. Maybe a couple weeks before the premiere as a "lost" episode. |
