First off, go VOTE HERE for Buffy. This is SlayAlive, we've gotta support our girl.  And now some moments of BADASSERY brought to you by our dear Slayer: - Buffy's impaled by a sword, then rises up - "I want you to Get. Out. Of. My. Face." - to swing the Scythe and knock half a dozen turokahn over the edge of the cliff.
- Just how many demons, gods, and vampires has she killed? Damn.
- The girl views windows as things she jumps through in order to keep on fighting. Obstacles aren't obstacles because she'll smash through them. This includes glass doors ('This Year's Girl' and 'Revelations').
- Turokhan; barbed wired beheading as she grits her teeth. Welcome to Thunderdome.
- "You're a god, make it stop," as she keeps bashing Glory over the head with a hammer so heavy Spike can't even lift it.
- Walking into a house, without her superpowers, to face an insane vampire who's already murdered his Council captors and is holding her mother captive. She goes in alone, terrified (she's already run away from him once before). She defeats him...with the power of her mind. Holy water + pills.
- "The arm's hurt." She punches Sunday across the room with said hurt arm. "It's not broken." Turns her back on Sunday, twirls her stake, showing off, then flings it across the room into Sunday's heart.
- The only way to kill the Gnarl is to destroy his eyes. Buffy has no weapons. What does she do? Grits her teeth and uses her thumbs. Yes, gross. But badass.
- "I'm beyond tired. I'm beyond scared. I'm standing on the mouth of hell, and it is gonna swallow me whole. And it'll choke on me. We're not ready? They're not ready. They think we're gonna wait for the end to come, like we always do. I'm done waiting. They want an apocalypse? Oh, we'll give 'em one. Anyone else who wants to run, do it now. 'Cause we just became an army. We just declared war. From now on, we won't just face our worst fears, we will seek them out. We will find them, and cut out their hearts one by one, until The First shows itself for what it really is. And I'll kill it myself. There is only one thing on this earth more powerful than evil, and that's us. Any questions?"
- Buffy kicks Angelus in the nuts. Yah huh.
- Buffy. Rocket launcher. (I wish we had an emoticon of this - how amazing would that be? Imagine the 'Buffy kissing' emoticon, only she's firing a rocket...)

How can Buffy beat frickin' Batman and she's losing to River? Buffyverse Fans - unite and take River down!

Yeah, I agree with you Pure At Heart, that scene in Anne is definitely the badass scene. Fantastic fight scene and it has that great shot of Buffy with her weapons that has always been in the opening credits.
I'd have to go with the Buffy vs Glory fight as a top badass moment as well.

Who are all these River fans? That aren't Buffy fans first!?! World imploding.
On Buffy badass moments, I'm always a fan of scenery being destroyed in fight scenes, so my badass moments are:
When Buffy kicks through the door to Sunnydale High when the Scoobies are running from the swarm of bees in "I Only Have Eyes For You" - it makes the title shots for seasons ahead.
When Buffy blasts the door of The Bronze off it's hinges in "Once More With Feeling" - incidentally something she said she couldn't do in "The Harvest".
When she throws the censer at Spike in "What's My Line Pt 2" and takes out not only him and Dru, but the back of the church.

Infact, the whole Buffy vs. Kathy fight was really funny.

"I don't care about your world...I have to save mine." - My all time favorite Buffy quote.
And when she smashes Fray's Scythe - woah. Only Buffy.

I see how some people could think River is more badass. She's a insane unpredictable killing machine.
But over all, Buffy is more bad ass. River's a frightened little girl with a violent streak, and Buffy's a strong and confident(mostly) woman.

Wow, I love River but can't believe she is actually beating Buffy. It will always be Buffy first for me. If it came down to a fight between the two I really think Buffy would win. She has stopped everything that has ever come up against her, plus she has the supernatural slayer strength. River, on the other hand, is just a bad ass fighter. I think River could definitely give Buffy a run, (she did defeat all those reavers), but I think Buffy would win in the end. She is only the strongest most kick ass slayer in history!
Some of my fave moments:
"I want you, to get out of my face!" *Buffy rising up in slow mo with a fierce warrior look on her face.* This moment always gives me chills.
In Becoming Part II, Angelus coming at Buffy with a sword. "So that's it then, no weapons, no friends, no hope. Take all that away, and what's left?" To which Buffy replies, "Me" and slams the sword back into Angelus' nose. Such a simple, yet powerful moment with a great message behind it.

Another couple that I thought of:
Bad Eggs - Buffy jumping into the Mother Bezoar and rising up the winner. That glare that she shoots the hickvamp is just brilliant. Who would mess with her?
and the similar scene in Doomed: Diving into the hellmouth and bringing back the demon to save the world.
The girl can dive into the depths of a hellmouth and come back unscathed!

This makes no sense. 7 years of ass-kicking versus...13 episodes and a film. Buffy is a much more developed, rounded character and we have seen her in more than a handful "badass".
Seems to me like the Browncoats assembled to win this one for River. Organized bunch, they.

River is freaking awesome, but beating the Buffster is just so unbelievable. I guess Firefly has way more internet friendly fans than Buffy does. Either way River is currently beating Batman to a pulp.

If she's beating Batman as well, then I imagine this has become a running joke and that she'll end up winning the whole contest.
On the Buffy badass moments - just remembered a fave fight scene. I love it in "Into the Woods" when Buffy has burned down the vampire crack den and then the group of 10 vamps try to ambush her in the alley and she takes them all down in 30 seconds because she's pissed off with Riley. Then the crack-whore vamp runs away and Buffy stakes her with a javelin. Awesome.
