In need of some serious Graphics help!!

hey guys! So, the basic story is that my mom asked me to design the poster for my school's choir's christmas concert.

The poster needs ot be 11 by 17, simple and plain, but pretty. I have this idea of having snowflakes, but the snowflakes are in the shape of music notes. Trouble is, i need to take pictures of music notes and make them look like they're coated in frost. like, if you've ever seen a snowflake up close, i want that exact texture but in the shape of a music note. can anyone help me or offer any advice?

I used these music notes:

Sharpened them once, created a new raster layer. Flood filled (set to pattern) with the snow flake pic below:

Then set the layer blend mode to Lighten. Then I sharpened it a couple more times.

No clue if that's what you were after, but I can't think of another way...
