I've been very interested in the craft of altered books. So this is my first attempt. It was created as a swap gift. The theme is Hallowe'en and Buffy. This is the book cover. I used an old hardcover novel and covered it decoupage method using torn pages from the pocket novels The Willow Files and Angel: City of. I hole was punched in the over and a brad used to protect the lace that ties the book closed. Next is a picture of the inside cover. It was painted and stamped. Most "pages" are actually 5 pages glued together so they are sturdy. Some sections had about 25 pages cut out to create room for things I stuck to the inside of the book. Here is an example where I made a pocket (first I glued specialty paper to the two sides of the pages) and inserted a set of buffy cut out clothes and a Buffy cut out doll. Other little things have been attached to the pages. The very last page of the book is actually about 75 pages glued together and then a coffin shape was cut out and painted grey. Here is a set of inside pages with a variety of images and stickers, paint and specialty papers adhered to the pages. The neat thing about altered books is anything goes. Let me know what you think.

Great job Sage! I loves it. There are a lot of people who would love a small gift like that. How many hours did you put into making it? Somewhere between 10 and 12 hours. But, this was my first time and I had to do some stuff over more than once - mostly finding the right glue/paste to use, learning once again - measure twice, cut once - as I somehow cut the special papers wrong a few times. Planning it takes time (not included in my hours) and I struggled with it at the begining. Also the glue and paint has to dry, so the time actually working on it was spread out over about a week. I could only glue a few pages at a time, they had to dry before I could glue other pages together. Once that was completed, then I painted some of the pages - I could only paint one set at a time as they had to dry before I could move on to other pages. I could only do one side of the cover and let it dry before I could do the other side and the binding side. I worked on it one to two hours at a time (sometimes once a day and sometimes in the morning and by evening it was dry enough to work on it again). I could glue the specialty papers to it and the odds and ends to it without worrying about dry times. Too much info?? It was fun and I will make more.

I especially like the paper dolls, did you make them yourself?

That's just awesome - just imagine how much a hardcore fan would love one of these - plus they'd be unique. Very creative, sagewoman. If only I had time I'd give it a go. I know a Capt Mal fan who'd love a Firefly one.

I've started a second book. One with a Christmas/Yuletide theme. It is fun.
