Just rewatching Into the Woods on the Buffytube part of the forum Gotta say no, much as I liked Riley as a person he had no place on a show like Buffy, he and the Buffster would never have worked out. What do you think?

Honestly No. Buffy so much better with out him, he is the least favorite character of mine. It was so sad on Buffy's behalf , running all that way for nothing , poor Buffy. Buffy and Riley relationship wasn't to be. Also i hated when Riley didn't look the opposite way directly to Buffy , when he was riding in his chopper. I would lol...

Well....kinda. I hated Riley's character and the relationship that he and Buffy had, but the story was so compelling, that it made me want Buffy to catch his chopper. Darn you, you excellent writers!!! But I agree with Buffylover, in a real situation, Riley would be looking to see if Buffy was running up.

I did, just because it's so sad that he never knew (and still doesn't know?) that she cared about him enough to stop him. And while Riley isn't the best char ever, I don't hate him at all. And even though I think Buffy was meant to run away with Spike and Angel ;D I think her relationship with Riley was the least...miserable to say the least. I don't think they were meant to be together, but I hated seeing them break up in such a way, and I think they were good together for the time that they were.

Ya know, I have to say I have never really given it much thought one way or another. I dunno why people are always so down on Riley though. I mean, he wasn't a bad guy. All I can say is, if Buffy didn't catch him then they just weren't meant to be. It's probably best that the two moved on. Riley needed to find someone who was capable of loving him the way he deserved.

I never really thought of it til now either, but I'm going with no. I do wish Riley somehow knew she came after him probably in "As You Were" that she actually did care. I guess he at least deserved that being one of the most unpopular characters.

I do wish he had looked down and seen her, or taht Buffy had arrived in time.
I've always had a soft spot for him, even after the kinda-cheating-with-vampire-hookers. And I never felt the two of them got closure.
Even after season 6, I wondered; "If they had had time to work it out, would they be madly in love now?"
Their relationship was never trully resolved. Riley could have been a bit more patient, Buffy a bit more attentive, but I see why they broke up. Don't get why Riley didn't reach out tough. Could have taken some time off and called Buffy without ruining any missions.
Hopefully, Riley's return in season 8 will give them a chance to talk (unless he's just used as a evil side kick without any substance).

I think the consensus is that Riley was an ok guy but we all knew he wasn't the guy for Buff. It's a tribute to the writers that they could almost make us want Buffy to catch the chopper but in the end we're glad she didn't

Wait, I thought Buffy did get a chance to tell Riley in As You Were that she tried to stop him. Did I miss something? Maybe I just imagined it.

No I didn't want Riley to hear her and then land, and then kiss and maybe later they would be at this spot again. I had nothing against the Buffy and Riley relashionship. But I feel bad for Riley cause Buffy pushed him away sorta, and that is because she can't have that normal relashionship. What Spike says, She likes pain, there is something in that. Or it was at that time. Everybody can change so... Nah, the show needed that farewell

While I think that Riley was probably the best match for Buffy (she needed that stable normalcy in her life), I think that Buffy was all wrong for Riley. I am glad that she didn't catch up to the chopper because there relationship would never come easy. They would both always view it as work. Not that any of Buffy's other relationships were easy...

I was not at all a fan of Riley. I was mildly offended that Buffy would even go after him. It's not that Riley was a bad person, but he liked the dominant-protector role, and that just doesn't work with Buffy. They were not a good match. Realistically, it's probably better that he left. If he hadn't left in the helicopter, he probably would have been offed at some other point. And then Buffy would have to deal with the guilt of getting her boyfriend killed...

Yes I did. I liked Riley. I thought he was sweet and genuine. However, I did not agree with him going to get himself sucked by vamps. Seemed really out of character. Buffy was going through a rough time with her mom and being a slayer on top of it.
Anyhoo, I really loved them together in Season 4. Especially in the early episodes. It was nice to see Sunny Buffy.

I hated when Riley didn't look at the direction when Buffy is supposed to enter, he looked at the wrong directions. I get angry of that reason.

I was never a big fan of Riley. In my own opinion, I'm really glad Buffy didn't catch up to him in time.

Im not a huge Buffy/Riley shipper, but this part made me want her to catch him. Riley was an okay character, and the only one that could give Buffy a normal relationship at the time(If you count that normal! ). Now that I think about it, I have some hope that Buffy and Riley will talk about their past together some in s8.

I did, just because it's so sad that he never knew (and still doesn't know?) that she cared about him enough to stop him. Buffy told him, in "As You Were". There's a reason Riley didn't look back for Buffy... it's because at that point, it was over. She didn't make it there on-time, and therefore not in time... so to look back would be to dwell on the past, and live in regret if she really didn't show up. Looking the other way symbolized his moving away, and moving on.
