No matter what else I buy, this is going to be the first thing I read. Not even if Marvels Project #8 comes out. Not even if my next Wonder Woman trade comes out. I MUST KNOW HOW THIS PLAYS./HellHype is SERIOUS about this I'll probably nab both covers again. Still a sucker for Chen's poses, but Jeanty did a great run of homage covers for this arc - makes me giddy.

Definitely picking up Jeanty's cover this time. I got Chen's for #34, because I wasn't a fan of the crazy Valentine's Day motif of Jeanty's cover... but Jeanty's cover just wows me a lot more than Chen's this time around. I get absolutely nothing out of Chen's cover, other than "Angel's face is kinda puffy", and "Buffy looks very manga-esque and is having a Godzilla-scale migraine", and "Holy photoreferencing, Chen-fans!"

I will, as always, take whichever one they put in my box.

Btw, just in case it escaped anyone, Brad Meltzer ( @bradmeltzer) will be taking questions for 24 hrs. Think of this as an opportunity for a Q&A.

T-minus 24 hours before the first people get to read this issue, and still no sign of a preview. I guess we'll all be #35 virgins.
Kind of odd how Scott and his editorial department put together a preview, but the PR department decided not to release it. These are the same people responsible for the Angel Cover debacle, I guess. I wonder what those two departments really think of each other. I'm betting there's not much love lost.
Tomorrow I'll be there in the comic shop, staring at the clerks disturbingly until they unwrap the damned comics and put them out. Unfortunately, at this particular shop they don't go out until around 3:30 pm.

And every time you mention that, Andrew, it will always sound weird to me. In my case, I'll have to read it and then zoom off to my World Languages final. Take a wild guess which one will actually be rattling in my brain during the test.

How have you even been able to study in the last month? I actually gave up uni...* Anyway, two more sleeps for me. Trying not to get to amped up because I really believe the "answers" we'll be given in #35 are going to be of the "fan-wank" kind. Hope I'm wrong. *ETA: Not really. Well... I did, but not because of S8.

I suddenly thought about that FAKE preview we got a while back... how tame compared to what we saw in #34... If you forgot which piece of art I'm talking about, here it is: And yes, the word "fake" needed that much emphasis. Just in case.

seems so lackluster considering what we know now but hey I'm sure our minds will get blown again tommorrow.
I am sorry for all those who get these late...my comic shop puts them out at 11:30-11:45 but its because we're right near a UPS processing center.

Ah hell I couldn't help but read.
Well still, Buffy seems to be acting like herself. Cool that questions we've been asking for months were brought up, some answered from last month. Now if only we could get the damn answers about Angel...

Well still, Buffy seems to be acting like herself. Like herself, if herself couldn't care less about all the things Twilight has done to her people. And it's quite obvious that she couldn't care less.

Hm. That five page preview didn't do much for me, and there wasn't a lot of dialogue. This may be a fast read. Or a faster read than usual.

Preview added to the OP. I disagree that Buffy doesn't care about what "Twilight has done to her people"... the very fact that she's talking about looking out for "orcs" and that the whole thing is a trap shows that she doesn't trust Twilight (the place/ambiguous entity). She's not even buying Angel's reassurances quite yet. And she's not wrong... it's a trap of sorts. They're stranded in paradise, and her friends are being caught in the afterbirth. And in the mode of how things usually goes for them, she's probably also right about how the bad will just spring on them. It's a moment of bliss, but the last 5 issues will probably see that bliss ripped away in some way.

It's a moment of bliss, but the last 5 issues will probably see that bliss ripped away in some way. By "Twilight," I meant Angel. She has not one single reason to believe he was innocent. But her only thought now is that somebody is going to ruin her happy sexy reunion with him. Even Giles seems to be willing to absolve him of everything, despite having nothing more than vague legends and hypotheses to go on. I guess killing people doesn't make you a killer anymore, in the new Buffyverse. What I want to see is Buffy witnessing the deaths of all her friends, and knowing that it's happening because of her. I want it to be something she'll never get out of her head for the rest of her life. And then, I want her to redeem herself by doing something to make it right. There's no way she, and certainly no way Angel, should skate free morally from this situation.

And it's quite obvious that she couldn't care less. THIS. My reaction: "I'm not sure 'killer' is the right word." How about 'accessory to murder' if 'killer' isn't going to stick in this narrative space? Is anyone else disappointed that the subject of Angel deceiving and manipulating for 33 issues appears to be something Buffy's already moved past? What happened in #33 boils down to--Buffy: You lied to me!/Angel: I lied to you because I know what's best./Buffy: Okay, lets have sex. While it's nice to see Buffy acting more in-character here, it's not in-character for me in light of what happened before and during the 'afterglow'. Buffy doesn't deal well with being managed, manipulated and lied to. See her telling the council to "Bite me" in Helpless and shutting the door in Giles face in Lies My Parents Told Me. So I'm hoping what was addressed in one line in #33 gets brought back up again, because I don't feel it was dealt with before the glow overcame Buffy and Angel. Now that the glow has passed...

It has been hinted at that the forces at work here extend beyond S8. Extend back in time. The "fairy tale" is playing out here. Just as we all knew that the princess would prick her finger on the spindle in "Sleeping Beauty", fate is playing out here. Which isn't to say that Buffy (and perhaps Angel) will remain fate's bitches. Buffy is fate's bitch. Her entire life and existence was rewritten the moment she was Called. But, what made her special is the fact that she's always turned on fate and told it to "Bite her". And from what it looks like, Buffy's pretty much past the afterglow, and beginning to ask some pertinent questions, or rather make some rather pointed observations. So... she'll probably do the same here. EDITED: "Fate" in place of "Faith". Freudian slip of sorts there.
