This is just making me like Buffy less and less.

This is just making me like Buffy less and less. (Buffy herself, the girl)"But when it comes to someone you're oh, say, BONING...it's all gray area." - Xander, SelflessExcept in that episode it was Xander who was all gray area when it came to someone he'd been boning. Buffy was all gray area back in Season 2 until she had to kill Angel, and while one can clearly argue the gray area again with Spike, Buffy was right on the money that Spike had no free will. Now, Buffy was about to stake Spike in Sleeper until she realized he was being used by the First. However, Twangel here might also not have free will, the difference being that Buffy doesn't know this and she's still not going after him. So yeah, not in character. The Buffy of the now is not still a seventeen-year-old girl. And her learning to find the strength to kill Angel when she had to changed her. Mostly, I'm worried they're going to try whitewashing Twangel (and make Buffy do OOC leaps in service of this) and I'm not going to be able to swallow it.

Is anyone else disappointed that the subject of Angel deceiving and manipulating for 33 issues appears to be something Buffy's already moved past? What happened in #33 boils down to--Buffy: You lied to me!/Angel: I lied to you because I know what's best./Buffy: Okay, lets have sex. Absolutely. That's my problem with this storyline in a nutshell. Unfortunately, it's a big, BIG problem for me. But apparently not to Joss or Brad, I'm afraid. Heh. Doesn't Faith wish. ;D

I have to admit I'm kind of glad they held the preview off this long. These pages need the other 17 to make sense, I think, and having a week or two to stew over them wouldn't have done my digestion any good.

Okay, "Lord of the Rings" reference FTW! It was like a breath of fresh air after the deluge of comics superhero references.

Considering that landscape, I think I'd be more on the lookout for the Cat in the Hat than a horde of orcs.

Why is Buffy afraid of orcs when her main enemies are vampires?

It's just a dorky reference for how the enemies always pop up when least expected. She makes other movie/fairy tale references too, like the poisoned apple from Snow White.

Oh, and thank you for that "finger" comment, Mr. Meltzer. For those of us who weren't quite sufficiently skeeved out by last issue.

In order to actually enjoy the "finger", one does have to kinda loosen up. Both literally and metaphorically.

ANGEL: "Damn, Buffy, that was new... where did you learn to use your finger like that?"
BUFFY: "Huh? O, I dunno. You know, I suddenly have this weird craving for cinnamon candy..."

Thanks... I don't think I needed the imagery to fully extend into the realm of the fully realized.

Yeah, because Meltzer was trying so hard to keep it subtextual...

Well, Xander and Anya previously tried spanking... so these little "taboos" really aren't anything new. It's mentioned in passing, in a humorous light. Same as the spanking. And Buffy and Spike doing things he "can't even spell". No subtext there either.

Someone still needs to explain how a vampire can deliver those particular goods without the benefit of any circulating blood. Anyway, I'm happy that Buffy and Satsu's sex scenes were handled so much more tastefully and romantically. Satsu didn't need the benefit of superpowers to send Buffy into orbit.

... Buffy and Satsu's sex escenes in Wolves at the gate pt 4 = no subtext. And Satsu---> Slayer, so, yeah, she still have superpowers.
I love Buffy's raction to this "Twilight" place, pretty funny.

In the very last panel who are the two in the background? And why is there hand on hip action? Plus why/what is Warren talking to Andrew about?

The figures in the background are probably Kennedy and Dawn. Andrew and Warren still seem to be arguing about the shield... lol
