I agree that I would prefer Buffy not even mention Twilight. The main villain being named Twilight though opened the door for these comparisons, but still. Hopefully Jeanty's cover is the last.

Buffy having sex in space can't compare to the stupidity of Bella's character. As for it being Buffy's lowest moment... meh, I don't think so. Basically the same thing as Where the Wild Things Are, just on a more epic scale. Disagree. BtVS held to a higher standard until #34. "Twilight" has always been held to a lower standard. BtVS lowered itself to parody "Twilight" which boggles my mind. How about instead of mocking such an easy target as "Twilight", just tell a kickass story? Meh. BtVS made a mockery of "Twilight" by being BETTER. Now apparently BtVS needs to actively mock "Twilight" 'cause it's so hugely successful. My, these grapes are sour. It's fine for the fans to mock "Twilight". It's fine for fanfic. It's fine for SNL. But I want more than "Twilight" mockery from BtVS. Jeez. Well good things it's just cover. I don't really think the point is to mock Twilight though. I mean, (Buffyverse's) Twilight has played a big part this season, why not use it as a pop culture reference? Not the first time Jeanty's cover used references that worked with how the story and characters are going down. All his covers for Meltzer's arc aren't mocking the source. It works symbolically. Just in fun, no biggie.

Spike's eyes almost never show their true color on the series - one of the few times that you actually see how blue his eyes really are in "Out Of My Head" - since he is almost always shown in dark spaces and at night his eyes would be reflecting that environment.

The Jo Chen cover may be very simple and elegant - but it does keep the continuity of how she rendered the Love Reunion cover of Buffy and Twangel. Perhaps what this will finally reveal is Spike being his own independent man. The only thing included in the issue were those flowers that depending on intent, if any, would have been about symbolism of flowers - those flowers could have been azaleas or chrysanthemums or been fantasy flowers.
One of the other covers for issue 35 by Chen showed Buffy thinking and all the portraits above her head - and yet as far as connection to the issue, the only thing I connect it to is Buffy thinking about her family, friends and loved one, the people that she loves and fights for.

Just in fun, no biggie. I don't think the cover was meant to mock Twilight either. But if I did, I would have absolutely no problem with that. Why not mock something so mockable that has so many simlarities to the series? I actually like Jo Chen's cover for once. I think I'm going to get both covers. But the lack of blue eyes and scar seriously bug. If you're going to do a close up portrait of a character, look at several pictures of the character! She seems to do that every other time. Goodness gracious, Chen!

Why am I just now seeing this? Oh well. ME SO HAPPY.
Edit - I agree about Spike's appearance. He has pretty blues eyes too. Not fair.

Love both covers actually. Now I'm not sure which one to get. I usually get the more realistic covers (cover A), but this time, I'm so tempted to get the New Moon cover. Angel in his Twilight gear and Spike and Buffy nuzzling up close to each other

If you're going to do a close up portrait of a character, look at several pictures of the character! She seems to do that every other time. Goodness gracious, Chen! Dunno about the scar, but Chen herself has said that the eye color will be tweaked before publication. The picture references she used were always dimly lit, so she couldn't tell what color his eyes were supposed to be. Which in her defense, unless you're actually staring into Spike's eyes in bright light, it'd be nigh impossible to tell without the right angle. ETA: This will be the last homage cover of the season. At least from Georges that is. Here's his tweet: He was talking in reference to the homage for #35.

I love the New Moon cover, I think for once I won't get the Jo Chen cover. It looks like the artists in the Buffyverse don't choose sides when it comes to Twilight vs. Buffy.

Yes it is. I can understand how he didn't really pay attention to eye color, but how the heck did he not realize or forgot about Spike's scar? Oh well. Perfect now.

But I'm glad the changes were made. Now, for once I have no complaints on her cover. Well done, Chen. If the Season 8 team pays that much attention to whedonesque, I should seriously sign up.

If the Season 8 team pays that much attention to whedonesque, I should seriously sign up. Whedonesque is being turned into a hater's forum. There's no real point in even clicking on comic threads anymore. I love how quickly Chen took it upon herself to fix her cover. It looks great.

If the Season 8 team pays that much attention to whedonesque, I should seriously sign up. Whedonesque is the only online forum the season 8 team looks at for online fan reaction, IIRC. It's also the only place Joss himself ever posts (rarely). The advantage is that it's pretty closely moderated, and there's usually a manageable number of posts to read through on any given subject. The disadvantage is that it's been a closed membership for quite some time now (you can't sign up), and so the opinions there tend to be an echo chamber of the same unchanging group of posters every time.

Given the fact that I woke up at 6 in the morning on my first day of summer break to see the Jenty cover staring me in the face threw me for a loop. Thought I was hallucinating for a sec. While this is the first Chen cover that I don't really care for, I'm so not digging the Jenty either. I get the jist and all but I wish Buffy would separate itself from anything Twilight related. It's like I can't turn around without running into a reference or something to those movies. Even my friends who claimed to hate them seemed to be turning into Twilight fans one by one. It's like Night of the Twihards around here and I think I'm going to be the last person with the shotgun at the end.
Need to go back to sleep I swear the t.v just said New Moon Maker overs...I think it's New Mom. Dear Jesu let it be new mom.
