This show is too good to be real. It just keeps getting better. It's officially tied with Buffy as my all time favorite show. Can't wait to see how it ends. Wish it didn't have to be so soon. It's going to be epic.

And here I thought that people would see it coming. All those predictive statements I read about Joss all the time, and hello, he does it again. And I doubt anyone saw it coming until the cloud of blood sprayed all over Topher. I saw the death of someone coming, it still didn't soften the blow. But did you see that particular death, in that particular moment happening? That's the measure of a cliche. When you can tell exactly when it's gonna happen. Bennett and Topher share a kiss. They're kinda happy. It's sweet. In retrospect, that's where Joss would place a shocking death. In the moment, I was reveling in awkward nerd romance. And then "BANG!" Oh wait... why wasn't I expecting it right then? Because it's good writing.

Well, I'll never try to claim I even remotely saw that coming, but I did think it was weird (in a distant sort of way) that we hadn't gotten anything about Boyd's backstory. You just kept wondering how a man who seemed as good and honest as him ended up working there, but after almost 2 dozen episodes, there wasn't even a hint about his past. Maybe that should've set off some alarm bells right there, but there was always so much else to focus on each week. And who else loved, "Bet you could kill me with your brain"? ;D

Loved that line, but for some reason... I'm drawing a blank as to why it's so familiar.

WOW.
I loved the flashbacks. Amy has been in flashbacks as Whiskey ever since we found out she was a doll. ^.^
BENNETT. OMG. This had to be the BEST shocker EVER. I knew something dark was coming in this episode, just knew, but after that AMAZING kiss between Topher and Bennett, I was too happy to think of the darkness. Then CLAIRE came in. I actually was so happy that I would see a scene between Amy and Summer: My two favorite actresses as of now and ever. Their chat was so sweet. I was watching Claire, and was a bit confused by her facial expressions. She was getting all teary, like she was upset; I guess from Boyd leaving... But then she just suddenly pulled out the gun. I literally flipped out; I had NO clue what she was going to do. I actually considered that she was going to shoot Topher, just because I love Bennett so much... *SIGH* So sad. So Joss.
And then the other twist was great as well, BUT I had called it after last week's ep at some point. I never got a liking towards Boyd, and just felt he never was explained or did anything interesting. I knew they HAD to have something juicy planned for him. Still, it was a shocker none the less.
Great episode. I still wonder about Claire. Has she been a sleeper all along, does she know she just killed Bennett? Is she teamed up with Boyd, or has she done what she was programmed to do, and she's finished with him?
I hate to say it, but I feel Bennett has overlapped Claire as my DH favorite. o.o ...Maybe the next episode will change that back around. lmao.

Fantastic episode.
Question: did they reuse the Epitaph One flashback entirely, or was there some tinkering to make it fit the context of the episode?

From memory, it seems like they reused it with no tinkering. I'm betting that the line about coming back for her is Whiskey's trigger. It's a guess, but it's the one thing she seems to hold on to.

I think they stuck in a quick mention of the bullet wound, about it being a "through and through." You didn't see his mouth as he said it, and it struck me at the time as a fairly-obvious bit of ADR. Plus, I remember wondering when watching that scene in "Epitaph One" what was wrong with him that she was giving him the meds for, because I don't think it was ever specified there...

I remember the drugs for inflammation, and the bandages. I think you're right about it being a "through and through" though. Try typing that 5 times fast. Oh, and thanks E for the reminder. Seriously... couldn't place it for the life of me.

That's what I thought too, but other than that I didn't think there was any tinkering. Neat. Though I wonder why they did that - time, money, or just more fun to use a scene they shot a year ago and put it into context?

Amazing episode.
Lots of mind blowing twists. So sad to see Bennett die...and so suddenly too. Darn you Joss with your clever flashbacks and cute kissing to make us care about her only to kill her. Like always I never saw it coming. And Boyd is the big bad, well that was another major got you!! My brain had a hard time adjusting to seeing him as the evil one.
Anyway, at this point I'm thinking that when Claire left the Dollhouse Boyd imprinted her with Clyde 2.0 in preparation for his master plan, whatever that my be. I know some people have been saying she's a sleeper active, which that maybe the only thing to it...but Clyde 2.0 has to be lurking somewhere and in the flashback he did say he switches bodies a lot.

I liked this episode but I didn't love it. I feel like the strain of rushing to wrap up is starting to show here. A LOT happened, very quickly, and I didn't get the required time to process and care as much as I'd like.
Claire hates Topher, walks in toward Bennet with her arms behind her back... Yeah saw that one coming.
I was so happy that Boyd came back for Echo, then boom. He's the big bad? Didn't see that coming at all, probably because over the series he's been the only consistantly devoted and lovable member of the cast. I'm not sure I like this development, but I'm interested in the direction it'll take. I mean, it's not like they turned Angel bad is it? lol

I loved this episode. One of my favourites of the season.
And I'm so glad I got to enjoy the Firefly reference, since I completely missed the Angel one in whatever episode it was.

But, maybe, MAYBE somehow Boyd isn't evil? I mean he probably is, but why did he kill the ninja? He knew Echo was being imprinted with Caroline, so he knew she'd remember seeing him there, so why bother? I hate Fox, I hate them so much, that ep was mind-blowingly awesome, but imagine how good it would have been over 3 or 5 seasons Any ideas how Mr. Dominic got out of the Attic?

From seeing the pics for next weeks episode before I already thought Boyd looked evil, they way he's with Echo strapped down on that bed thing. So I wasn't that suprised. I should learn not to spoilt myself. Had to do when running a fansite though.

Holy crap! Lat night's episode was crazy. I never saw any of those coming. I was speechless when Saunder capped Bennett in her dome. My jaw dropped. It was so sad. Topher finally found love and then it was gone. I first though it was just Saunders getting revenge on what Topher did to her but then finding out she's a sleeper... what? Madness. I was happy to see that Caroline wasn't the complete *inserts "female dog* that the Left hand made me think she was. But it didn't end there. Boyd is top dog? The man is created Rossum? Get the heck out! For realsies? That was just way out there. I was in complete ans utter shock. Such greats twists. Getting Closer was A M A Z I N G! One of Tim MInear's best yet. So frickin' epic. Im still recuperating from what I just witnessed.

So awesome, so horrible. And it was astonishing how the found time to develop characters within such a maelstrom. I don't think th episode rushed at all - but it sure was remorseless. *brain is still friend* ps - people are mentioning the firefly reference, i have wondered if River was imprinted with some Bennett by the Alliance (crack-fic here we come!) but i just wanted to say; Epitaph One has a whole ton of firefly nods. What Jane Espenson would call 'future echoes'. Safe Haven for one. Any ideas how Mr. Dominic got out of the Attic? 1) It's still possible that he never left. 2) He's been lying all the time and we don't know it yet.

I wonder if Boyd was always planned to be the head of Rossum or something they just thought up to close the series.
