Ok I have the Retreat tpb now and I dont like how there is so much content that is related to war and military-style combat. I understand that Buffy is an american-made story and that war and the armed forces are unfortunetly a major part of The U.S's global identity, this is supposed to be a tale about a young girl who fights evil with her friends. In the tv show they occasionally used a bazooka or flamethrower like twice in the whole series, but after that it was old school toys and magic tricks. I get it that this is a comic book and they can go all out, but sometimes too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. They shouldn't be using guns at all, they made a big deal about using them during that episode where Buffy heard everybody's thoughts and now here evrybody's going around blasting this and that. I feel as though the story is starting to stray from what it once was, it has so little boundaires in what can happen in the story and now its just drifting into something that doesn't focus as much on personal issues and fighting monstersd with swords and magic as much as it does on war now.

i agree that the story is getting out there, as far as militarizing the slayer army, and then having them fight the government, esentially.
but compared to where buffy was in earshot (the episdoe where she heard thoughts), she was worried about a student taking out other students. granted, she always fought demons with a stake, an axe, or sword. but now, she's "graduated" (forgive the weak pun) into a new realm.
buffy chose, along with willow and the potential slayers, to become what they are now. and now that theyre fighting the military. imho, i think that it's the people of earth who've glamorized the vampires, and demonized the slayers. if the slayer army has to pick up some guns to protect themselves, i think they are in their right.
BUT, i do agree, this is not the buffy story i watched on tv. it's evolved. for better and worse. i agree that it sucks to have to see slayers fighting w/ guns and fighting against the military.

I don't think we're supposed to think it's a good thing. But it's inevitable, considering what the Slayers have become, that if the world turns against them it's going to be a military conflict.
But I think we've seen the last of it.

They're not Slayers anymore - they're humans. Humans fight each other with guns. It's a thing.

It definetly shwos a flaw in humankind. But couldn't they have taken a "higher road" and realized that its still humans and the wisest thing to do would be to not promote violence against humans by humans. I mean isn't that why they made such a big deal out of Faith killing that human guy a long time ago?

They were stuck in Tibet, with nowhere to run, and no magic to aid them. The soldiers weren't exactly sympathetic about killing a bunch of young girls. Taking the higher road is idealistic, and desirable, yes, but when it comes down to it, all they were doing was trying to survive. They didn't make a big deal out of Faith killing the mayor's assistant. It was a mistake, and they were willing to help her through it. The big deal was made when Faith decided to go rogue, first trying to frame Buffy, then allying herself with the Mayor, becoming his personal assassin. That's the difference.
