I saw earlier this morning on Yahoo that Ghost Whisperer has been cancelled. Such a shame, I was really fond of that show.
I wonder why it was cancelled. I haven't gotten the chance to see all of season 4 yet, and I couldn't watch season 5 when it was on because of conflicting showtimes, but where the last 2 seasons that bad that they had to cancel?
Lots of unhappiness in shows for me recently, I was so mad when I found out Katherine Heigl was leaving Grey's Anatomy, Supernatural ended, and now Ghost Whisperer is cancelled? It was probably cancelled so some new dumb show could start next season.
What next?

Pretty sure that Supernatural hasn't been cancelled. Quite the opposite, actually. I think Eric Kripke (the creator) had a 5 year plan for the show. So he intended the 5th season to be the last. But it's one of the CW's more successful shows, to it's sticking around for at least one more season. However, Kripke has left the show, is my understanding.

I thought Supernatural was ending after season 5. I didn't think there were any plans for it to go on any longer than that.

I thought Supernatural was ending after season 5. I didn't think there were any plans for it to go on any longer than that. It was supposed to end at season 5, Kripke stated many times that he only had a 5 year plan, but as wenxina said above since it was a popular show they decided to keep going, at least for one more season, but Kripke wouldn't be the show runner/excutive producer anymore. I think I remember hearing somewhere that S4 and S5 actually gained viewers instead of losing viewers. Which was part of the reason why the 6th season's a go. Kripke won't be returning to the series (as far as I know anyway) but Supernatural will have at least one more season with Sera Gamble (Gemble? Sorry I don't remember her last name) as the executive producer/show runner.

Eric Kripke is still gonna be hanging around on Supernatural as an executive producer, while Sera Gamble (yes, its Gamble) being the showrunner

I don't think it's that surprising that Ghost Whisperer is being axed, Season 4 seriously jumped the shark. The whole Jim-dying-then-body-hopping storyline was awful. I didn't even see the point. All I can think is that the writers suddenly realised that - gasp! shock! horror! - Jim and Melinda actually had a normal, healthy, stable relationship and thought to themselves "Oh no, we can't have that! That's not how it works on TV. How can we completely screw them over?"
Then the show jumped forward five years, which, let's face it, never really works. Desperate Housewives anyone? As for Supernatural, again, not surprising that's it's going for longer than Kripke expected. It's a high-rated show, the network will want to keep it going as long as possible. Plus, the storyline that's currently unfolding was never meant to be, so the whole "five-year-plan" is shot to hell.

ABC passed on Ghost Whisperer, so S5 is the end. The Supernatural beat goes on, da-da-dum-da-dum.
