I only saw both Buffy and Angel (and Firefly too) earlier this year. Which got me thinking, who else was 'Late to the Party?'
In other words who here only ever saw Buffy or Angel after their initial run was over? I'd be interested in seeing how many people saw it for the first time on DVD or through re-runs.
Just curious.

*raises hand* I was one. I didn't start watching Buffy until about 2007, so way after it had finished. I saw a few glimpses on YouTub and some episodes from season 5, but it wasn't until i bought both Buffy and Angel on DVD that I watched the entire series

I just started Buffy this year too. I haven't gotten into Angel or Firefly yet, but I probably will eventually.

I had seen several episodes of both Buffy and Angel during their initial run, but it wasn't until one summer when I discovered Buffy reruns on FX that I became obsessed.

I only saw them for the first time about two years ago, when my brother bought them on dvd. Though I did see the first season of Dollhouse when it was actually on tv, but I still haven't seen the second season.

Me I have never seen Firefly, but I seen Buffy towards 2004/2005, when the last season's episodes re-aired. And I seen Dollhouse' first season as it aired, but towards the second season, I missed quite a few episodes.

I think you can add a poll to your first post if you want, to easier see how many that came in late.
For Buffy/Angel I saw parts when they aired on TV in Sweden(not always the same year as they aired in the US) and parts on DVD. Firefly I watched a few years on DVD after it stopped airing (I saw re-runs on Swedisg TV too). Dollhouse I watched on Swedish TV, probably the same year it aired, maybe a few months after, I can't recall.

I saw Firefly only after it came out on DVD. I watched Buffy seasons 1-4 during their initial run, seasons 5-7 on DVD. I only saw S1 of Angel during its initial run, and seasons 2-5 on DVD. Saw both seasons 1 and 2 of Dollhouse during their initial run.

Well I thought about that but abandoned the idea when I realized that the answer would basically be yes or no. I am interested because the other day I was thinking about Lord of the Rings and how that is still popular even 60 years after being published. Then I thought of Monty Python and even though it has been 30-40 years since they stopped, there are generations who never saw them live, yet can still quote entire scenes of Holy Grail. And I was wondering if a few years people will still be able to recognize Buffy quotes. What I was thinking is that in 10 -15 years time the people who grew up with Buffy will show it to their children and thus a new generation will be familiar with Buffy. A sort of Buffy Renaissance.

I can see where you're coming there, I hope that this does happen to Buffy and kids say 15 years from now will be interested but it could be a case ofthe kids putting up with mum and dad getting nostalgic over pld progs. It would nice to see Buffy and programmes like it become as a cult following such as Star Trek. Look how that took off, it started in the mid-sixties and it's got a massive following.

I'm also fashionably late to the Buffy bash, I started watching in late 2007. Its original run lasted from when I was four to when I was 11, soo, I couldn't really watch it then. xD

I saw most of Buffy and some of Angel when it aired, but only watched Firefly about a year or so ago-- due to reading more about it on this forum, in fact!

I got into Buffy after it was on the telly. Friends of mine liked it and I had seen the odd episode but never really got into it until I saw some repeats of series 1 about five years ago and really liked it. A local shop was selling all the video box sets ridiculously cheap so I bought some and the obsession began I started watching Angel after I had finished my Buffy videos (also bought from local store at very low price). I watched Dollhouse when it was first shown on the tv, and I haven't finished watching Firefly on dvd yet and haven't watched Serenity. I have seen Dr Horrible online after my mom told me about it.

^^ I find it cool that your mom knew about and told you about Dr. Horrible. edit And what astranger and astray are saying, if you think about it, we are the future generation of parents that will be talking about Buffy and being nostalgic and quoting scenes by heart to our kids. (I know i will! lol) ;D I truly believe that in 20-30 years from now the Buffy fandom will still continue to thrive and have a huge following.

Hehe, my mom is really cool I remember her calling me and saying she had read that Joss Whedon had created a new show that was available online. She keeps me up to date on everything, like last Saturday she texted me in the morning to let me know Anthony Head was going to be on Saturday Kitchen

You know I've always planned on having kids someday and I have to admit that I was originally wanting to introduce them to Buffy. However as I get older I have to wonder how much they'd enjoy the show. I mean many of the pop culture references would be lost to them and they may end up dismissing the show as out of date; much like how I treated most of the classic shows my parents have tried to make me watch.

I watched a little bit of season 5 of Angel when it was on, but I had no idea what was going on.
I started watching Buffy when issue 3 of season 8 came out and than watched Angel and Firefly.
I watched Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible as they were coming out though.
