"This past year has been the best in my life"? Xander spent a year with Dracula as his "buttmonkey"? That's almost hard to believe. Kinda puts perspective on the length of time between Chosen and Season 8.
EDIT: Oh yeah, thanks for posting this btw... am I alone in hating how Xander looks??

Makes you wonder how Xander is all commander cool now, if he spent so much time with Dracula. How did his character evolve to what it is now, if he was all "manservant" for so long? The timeline seems to be fraying...

Very nice read. Thank you for posting this. Like everyone else, I'm wondering how Xander ended up spending an entire year with Dracula. More back story would be nice. a general idea of how much time passed between season 7 and this story may fix that.
I think the bigger questions is Why did it take a whole year for Buffy to come rescue him?
I wouldn't get too hung up on that year comment. Maybe Xander being with Dracula for a few weeks improved his whole year that much... Or maybe Dracula was being overly dramatic...which he is through the whole story...
Someone else said to keep in mind that the entire Tales of the Vampire is actually being told in the future by an ancient Vampire to a group of children being trained to be future Watchers...so it could be his exaggeration.

hmm. Interesting story. I think it must take place some time after the Wolves ark. I can't imagine that was before season 8. Perhaps it takes place between issues of the wolves ark. I doub't that that ark will span a years time though so I guess it has to be a prior to or post season 8.

I can has theory?
What if Xander was so depressed over Anya's death, he decided he was ready to die, and it backfired on him? He thought, there's a vampire Buffy couldn't kill. Seemed like a pretty quick and easy suicide, right? Wrong. Dracula makes Xander his manservant instead.
Bit of a stretch, but that's my guess.

Saying something along the lines of "this past year has been the best of my life" doesn't imply that the entire year was spent with him. Say Xander was there from March-July, Drac could still say "this past year" and it would make sense. It doesn't have to be an entire year.

What the hell? Xander spent a year with Drac? Yeah right! It was probably Dracula being dramatic. Also, Xander looks like a hunchback and his hands are too big and he looks just...bad! I hope this is cleared up or happens at some point in "Wolves At The Gate". I so don't get it...
