Can we be sure that this is the "major hit"? I mean, that was in the blurb for #15. Does that mean that there's another hit of sorts coming, or does this event bleedover (lousy pun) to the next, and is wrapped up (again, bad pun) there? Um I believe it is one event of a major hit- I'm thinking there is much more to come. Have to admit...NOT happy about it either

I really loved how Dawn was wearing a Herbie shirt! I was hoping for more Dawnzilla, hopefully they'll be more next month. I also love Willow's look after Dracula mentions her "acrid stench". Georges has really got a feel for the characters now.

I'm kind of exicted to see whats going to happen at the beginning of the next issue. Xander with Renee's body? Who's going to carry it out, Xander?
Im stoked!

I like how we all over the Buffy/Satsu drama. No one really minds the Buffy/Satsu scene no more.

I really loved this issue. Drew Goddard really started to develop Renee a lot in #12, and I was really starting to like her and was really pleased with the Xander/Renee interaction this issue.
I was completely shocked when she was skewered, although I should have suspected that something horrible was going to happen to Renee after she and Xander kissed. I would like to see a relationship last in the Buffyverse, but I also understand that there is some importance to keeping things interesting by throwing a wrench into happy relationships (although if one relationship was meant to last in the Buffyverse, because it NEVER got boring, that would have been Xander and Anya, but we all know how that turned out).
I also really enjoyed the scene with Buffy and Satsu. It was nice to see Satsu stand up for what she thought was right for her, as I'd imagine Buffy's complete disregard for her since their encounter was starting to tick her off.
Dawn's moment was spectacular too. I lost it when that gigantic RRRROOOOOOAAAAAARRRRR!!!!!!!! filled the page.
It will be interesting to see how this arc ends. Like kingofcretins mentioned earlier, I really want to see Xander take down Toru. Buffy doesn't always have to take down the big baddie (case in point: she was useless against Dark Willow), and I would love to see Xander take out some rage on Toru (perhaps a Xander/Dracula vs. Toru battle?).

Oh yeah, did anyone else think the coloring looked a little odd on the regular vamps in this issue? They all seemed really tan to me, which really threw me off at first. I really doubt that vamps in Tokyo would be that tan. I think that was my only gripe with this one.

Ok, so I haven't read the issue yet (I get it tomorrow), but I'm one for spoilers Anywhos, I'm pretty sure wenxina is right to think that the major hit in Issue #15 probably has nothing to do with this Renee thing. Also, as someone mentioned earlier, Renee is definitely on the next issue cover and Willow was right there as well, I don't think she is going die. At least if she does, she won't be for long

Cover art is used for misdirection all the time. It means nothing. I think the 8.15 variant is about the arc as a whole, kinda like the 8.09 "Avengers" variant was a reflection of the whole arc for Giles and Faith. Renee was there, she fought and was lost, ergo, she's on that cover.
But for the purposes of decent storytelling she's obviously dead.

I think both prodigy and unnatural thing both make sense. "Unnatural thing" could just refer to the fact that she is HUGE.

I have to say: WHY WHY WHY!!!!! Why did we have to lose Renee. So angry. So sad. Grrrrrr. But still great issue, it just broke my heart.

Good point about the comic book cover art, though, so far, they haven't been misdirects in Season 8.
Let's see, I have noticed that sometimes Joss makes it *look* like someone died and in fact they come out fine:
Buffy (Prophesy Girl), Spike (What's My Line pt 2), Buffy (The Gift), Anya (Selfless), Warren (Villains)
There are probably more, but that's all I can think of right now.
Anywho, I think there is a large possibility Renee is or will be fine.

Yeah, I don't see Renee being done for. One thing I've learned about the BuffyVerse is that it is always misleading...I guess we will just have to see. I'm still not sure what to think about Buffy's new gal; I just can't believe it yet...it seems too far off for her personality.

Yeah, Joss has said it was equivalent to college experimentation, but they have made it more into a fling than anything.

At least if she does, she won't be for long On the other hand, I've mentioned before that the cover is an homage to "Seven Samurai", of whom several die...

This issue was full of classic Buffy moments. From the Dracula comment "Is anyone going to finish this?" to Buffy's "This is war." to the Xander and Renee moment in the weapon room. Then there was Dawn. I can't express how much I loved her "Hi. Or I mean... Roar?" line. The last page was shocking, I just didn't expect them to kill someone this early in the season. I guess it was to be expected, but it was still sad. I hope Willow can do something with magic. The variant cover for the next issue gives me hope that she is saved.
