I just picked up the issue, and I hate to say it, but the story's up and gotten away from him. There are too many characters, too many seperate narrative threads and the art is servicable at best.
And Whedon's whole resolution of the Xavin gender-swapping? Cheap, cheap.
His (that's right, his) real self is the Skrull.

I don't really think it can be settled one way or another. I haven't read the issue yet (I buy my comics on Saturdays) but I assume you're talikng about the scene in the preview, and yes, that was cheap.

The way I see it, Xavin is a male Skrull who shifts form to a human woman because it's what Karolina needs. He's sort of a reverse-beard. I realize it's Brian K. Vaughan's attempt at introducing a transgendered character, but didn't he just introduce a transgendered characeter?

I don't know much about skrulls, but I thought they were asexual.
So I read the issue, and I enjoyed it a lot. There are a lot of things going on, but I've read the entire series through like four times now, so I can keep it straight. I really don't have any major complaints. For the first time since issue one I like the artist, and I'm still loving the characters.

I haven't loved his run on the Runaways all that much. He seems to not really understand the basic concept of the series - They're kids. They're kids that don't trust adults. And there's no way in hell they would work for Wilson Fisk above Tony Stark or Carol Danvers or any of those Pro-reg douches.
