Vampires and Zombies, oh my
So I have the completed pencils and inks for ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL issue 4, and the one-two combo of 3 and 4 will knock your socks off. Really great stuff from Franco, some new faces, some old faces return (including the reveal of the mystery man on the cover to number 5).
Despite all the supporting characters and hell's-a-poppin', it is Angel's story first and foremost. He has some wonderful stuff that I'm really proud of. Angel's a very internal character, always keeping things to himself, but I've learned why that works so very well for comic books. Sure it's fun and a challenge to throw him among a ton of people and watch him TRY to be outgoing, but the real advantage that comic books have over the TV show is that Angel can provide narrative, talk to the reader, and that's where he can reveal what he's thinking. He can be outgoing as he wants. It's worked to great effect in one and two, I think, and it only gets better.
That said, oddly Issue 4 has no narrative voice-over, as Angel is somewhat forced to reveal plenty of of himself to others. To put in the voice-over would be overkill, so it plays more like an episode of the TV show. I didn't even realize that there weren't captions until I was done and read it back. Pretty interesting. I think some of the strongest dialog is in that issue. Hope you guys agree.
In related news, I've said it before but I'll say it again because I'm proud of the book, EVERYBODY'S DEAD is available for pre-order in the new issue of Previews.
If you like my work on ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL, I think you'll like this too. It's a fun, kinda potty-mouthed horror adventure, but it's got a ton of heart and some pretty great romance. When I started writing it, it was definitely inspired by early Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi, but rewrites over the years have definitely been inspired by Mr. Whedon. Again, comic shops don't even know this comic exists, so if you want a copy of it, you have to tell them to order it. If you do, I will be forever grateful and hug you.
And remember, if you're in the LA area, come to the Los Angeles Science Fiction and Comic Book Convention. It's one day, January 13th, and it's jam-packed with cool stars and creators. I'll be signing for a really long time, so come on down. I'll have lots of ANGEL:ATF posters and postcards for you, and maaaaybe I'll bring some more fun stuff to give away randomly.
Oh, and Uwe Boll is going. If there is a God I will be placed next to him and get to him to sign my forehead.
Talk to you guys later, thanks for reading!
