To warn everyone from the start, this is a small nitpick. But it's something that's been bothering me more and more as the series goes on, and I'm curious if I'm the only one.
Everyone in the series keeps referring to the place they're in simply as Hell. But we know from the shows that there are many, many hell dimensions, not just one, end-all, be-all Hell. Yet they keep talking like that's what this is. I'd feel it'd fit the mythology of the show much better if someone would just finally refer to it as "a hell dimension."
So yeah, has this been bothering anyone else?

It kinda bugs me as well, but maybe we'll get the answer in an upcoming issue.
Also, I don't think they are in Hell....more that "hell" has been unleashed on Los Angeles. Which is why there is no dimension to speak of.
They are still in L.A, but hordes of demons from other hell dimensions have been poured into the city, thus "sending it to hell".
One kink in that theory is the perpetual twilight. I don't know how that one can be pulled off if they are in our earthly realm. Planets and stuff can't stop revolving...

If that were true, why aren't there a hundred slayers there trying to help? I think LA really did get sent to a hell dimension.

I was also under the impression that Los Angeles got sent to a hell dimension. I mean, one of the first lines of the series is, "Wolfram & Hart sent Los Angeles to hell". And I think Gwen also sais they are in hell. But now that brings up the question, doesn't the world notice that one of the biggest cities in the world is gone? It's all kind of confusing. Maybe since time moves differently in some hell dimensions, time isn't moving.
But who knows? It hasn't really been explained.

I think that L.A. has been turned into a little Hell Dimension. Wes has talked about a barrier a couple of times. Maybe the only reason the world doesn't know about this is because W&H have brainwashed everyone and changed their memories. It wouldn't be the first time that they have done that. That might explain they reason that no one has been to help yet.
Or Hell-A could be a world that was created just for this type of thing. That would explain some of the time instability and teleporting that has been taking place.

I also believe that a Hell Dimension has been unleashed on L.A. I don't think L.A. was physically moved to a Hell Dimension, but one was just opened up on the city.

But if one was opened up on the city, wouldn't it have spread beyond LA? And spread quickly?

There is a barrier around the city, I'd imagine that is what is containing everything.

To quote our dead Ex-Watcher and Ex-Demon Hunter... "Wolfram & Hart sent us here, but they don't control it. As much as they would like to, and they're trying. It's too much evil for even them. There are forces at work that they have nothing to do with. They're the ones we have to worry about."
By him saying this it leads me to think that we have some more players in this game. Maybe they are the ones that are keeping everything on the down low.

I've been thinking the same thing. all I can guess is that if/when L.A. gets sent back, no time in our world will have passed.

That's certainly possible, when we think of the hell dimension/Earth timeline in"Anne."

That or a massive spell to make the entire world not notice that L.A. is gone, but I think the writers can pull the whole time difference off better.

So yeah, has this been bothering anyone else? Yes I've been wondering that too ever since Hell Bound aired. In that episode it seemed that Hell actually existed which seemed to contradict the umpteen references to hell dimensions. But I put this down to my theory that Joss and co made up a lot as they went along i.e. if it fitted with the story then the writers went with it and weren't that concerned about the show getting bogged down with continuity.

Well in Hell Bound we sort of get a taste of what the afterlife is like in the Buffyverse. There may in fact be a place that one is sent, depending on their actions in life, after they die. With Buffy, she felt she was sent to a Heaven and Spike (and Angel) agreed that when and if they die, they'd be going to a Hell.
But that's way beside the point. I believe L.A. was transported to a Hell Dimension. Not the hell, but a hell dimension. It's been shown (In Underneath) that Wolfram and Hart has control over severl dimensions, so I believe that's the case here. Though I doubt the specifics will ever be addressed.

I believe that Hell was unleashed on L.A. and not that L.A. was shifted into a hell dimension. I believe everyone outside of L.A. doesn't even know that its missing, similar to what Cyvus Vail did about Conner.

It's bugged me a lot too. I keep wondering what would happen if someone just tried to walk out of the city limits.
