Hey all. Has there been any official word on where the pre-After the Fall comics fit in with the show & ATF continuity?

True that, Wyndam and wreckked. Though I do consider "Asylum" and "Shadow Puppets" to be the official story as well, seeing as Brian Lynch wrote it and probably considers the character development Spike underwent in those series when he's writing Spike in "After the Fall." Hell, I would. Those two miniseries are so worthy of canon.
Anyone who doesn't consider them canonical would be in their rights, because Joss never deemed them canon. But I think those two miniseries are actually the only two instances where the canonical status of something is up for debate.

Though, to add to that list, Wyndam, "Angel- Long Night's Journey" seems to deserve a place on that list. Joss was credited as co-writer of that series, much like the other canonical Dark Horse titles.

Are there TPB's of the whole Tales Of The Slayers and Tales Of The Vampires available? Also, how many issues in each? Thanks.

and Buffy The Origin comics I think that's true for the story and backstory, but not literally as its presented in the comic (which Joss Whedon has some issues with) ie. vampires don't have green skin, walk around naked, and some of them look like werewolves for no reason

Yes...and I think there are 5 issues for each...but I could be mistaken since I only have the TPBs for them...thus never collecting them individually. Tales of the Slayer is great with a nice opening written by Joss concerning the First Slayer and bookended with a nice little story concerning Fray.

Tales of the Slayers is considerably shorter than Tales of the Vampires. In fact, I believe it was never a series at all, but simply always a trade paperback. I could be wrong about that, but it was considerably shorter than "Tales of the Vampires." A bit more than half the size. "Tales of the Vampires," I know, was a five issue limited series that is now a collected trade paperback.

What annoys me about After The Fall is: 1) It's not fully written by Joss. Brian Lynch is dong a fantasti job but still..... 2) At first After The Fall was not canon when it was announced but then when it first came out Joss stated that it was. Weird 3) Joss has said a few times that this is NOT how Angel season 6 would have been at all if this had been on TV. If it was Los Angeles would have been over run by demons/monsters and the team would have been trying to win the city back and then they would have taken on vamp Gunn for the season finale. After the fall has used some of these ideas but it alsio has a telephatic fish, a good guy dragon and weird Hell A. In the show it was said it would have just been a post apocolyptic city All of this is taken from an issue of the Angel magazine.

His involvement on Angel wasn't that large until Season 5, and I think that since After the Fall gets his approval and he considers it cannon should be enough. Plus it shows that he has a lot of faith in Brian Lynch's writing and plotting. I think Brian has every character's voices down pat and is the perfect writer for this series. Plus what you read in an interview were just possible plot ideas. You never know what might have actually happened, but what you said about the apocalyptic city, the team trying to win it back, and then an eventual showdown with Gunn, that all seems to be happening in After the Fall anyways, so I don't really see much of an issue?

And your #2 point is not how I understood it to be...and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Joss requested Bryan Lynch because he liked what he did with Spike: Asylum.

Like I couldn't imagine it actually happening on the show. I don't think I'm describing it very well. The comic is brilliant but little things that have happend in it just seem out of place.

Not being able to see it happen on T.V. is what makes it so great! No way we would be able to have some of the things we have seen so far that are so cool! This is a FANTASY world so anything can happen. I don't see why people judge things that are over the top in fantasy works. I mean that is kinda the point, to ecsape from the real world.

"After the Fall" was never not canon. When it was announced, it was announced first as a canonical season six. Joss never came out and said "It's now canon."

And I am all about Brian Lynch, and Betta George! I mean, a telepathic fish! C'mon! He rules! I'm loving ATF so much more than BTVS8. I think I need a Lynch-penned Angel Season 7. And a puppy. And James Marsters in leather trousers delivered to my doorstep. A girl can dream, yes? I would recommend getting Tales of the Vampires over Tales of the Slayers if you have to choose one. It's more bang for your buck, plus there's a rather interestingly written Spike/Dru story. And the Fray TPB over both of those, if you don't have that already.
