I just think it's odd to have Lilah on the cover but not in the comic itself. She's sort of a big character and you wouldn't want to put her on the cover and then just disappoint everyone when she's nowhere in the comic, ya know? It's a shame, though, cuz it would be a good cover if Lilah was going to be involved at all in that issue.

You'd need Gwen to be a part of the issue, too. It's the same thing with her.

Well, if they aren't in the issue, but the designers like the concept, they may use different characters. Although, as Cowboy Guy stated in one of his posts: The covers do not actually have to directly relate to the issue, they can be sort of cool artist images of our favorite characters (as long as they do not act inconsistent to the character). Look at the Season 8 Buffy covers. For the most part they do not tell any sort of story. Just a cool rendering of the characters we love. I suggest you all take a tip from that and model you next concepts after that. There are a lot of issues to come, maybe these characters will pop up later on. Personally, I would like to see a story-line including them. In any event, I am enjoying the discussion and debate - no one else in my family is a fan so I haven't anyone to toss around ideas with. No matter who gets chosen, we all win. :jump:

Hey gang! Just another update. Kevin just emailed me, and told me that due to IDW's schedule we won't be announcing the winner until next week. The person who handles our affairs is out of the office this week. I dunno if that's too much info, but hopefully everyone will understand/be at ease with this info. As soon as the winner is announced we'll start taking submissions for Issue 4!! -CBG

Do we need to wait for the selection of cover concept #3 before the #4 contest can start? We now have only 2 weeks left in the month to think of a design.
Hoping for some more news soon.

Taken from the BCC:
Congratulations to Beth Odegar! Beth's concept was voted no. 1 at SlayAlive.com and also chosen by IDW to be interpreted and drawn by comic artist Stephen Mooney for cover no. 3!
Joss Whedon, Brian Lynch and YOU continue to tell the tale of Angel after the climactic battle that ended the Angel television series. As it turned out, Angel didn't end up slaying the dragon after all. But maybe Illyria will! After a brutal Illyria/Angel throwdown, it's goddess versus giant, fire-breathing reptile, and a huge reveal that no one will see coming!
Beth's winning concept is:
"The scene is an orange-lit alley; sunset. The city seen in the background looks deserted, as nobody wants to be out past sunset now. With a slightly overhead view, in the background and facing front (but slightly at an angle) is Illyria. In the foreground is Angel with his back to us, but his head is turned toward Illyria so that we can see his profile. Illyria is casting a long shadow because of the sunset, and Angel is in a bit of a shadow himself. They are facing each other, both with their fists clenched. On the ground between them lays a scythe. Above them, standing on a rooftop, are Spike and Connor. They both look as if they are preparing to jump from the roof down into the alley. The general feel is that of an Old West-type standoff. Who can get to the scythe first?"
Congrats Beth!! Issue 4 submissions are being taken now. Check the other thread for details.
