I get what you're saying Matt. We could just be going through the same thing completely.

I cant wait for the essence of statues to come out....hopefully I can have money saved by then! I think the spike one is fantastic! No one has mentioned him that I have seen..... poor spikey. Angel's likeness from the pics I have seen looks amazing, though overall the statue is a little boring. WIllow is adorable! I love that they covered both the bookworm and the witch. as for the revamped: buffy looks bored. angel looks good, again, they got the likeness (they have come a long way since the ornament....yikes!). I just started collecting about 6 months ago, so it is sad for me that it is ending....i just started!!!! oh well, i have plenty to catch up on and hopefully these new lines will quench our cravings

...And no Knox, Andrew (white *or* black hat), Amy, or Lindsay... My Buffy figures have nobody to fight, and it's not because I don't *love* villains! Well, I take that back, I just bought Darla... Still.

I called this years ago when Fred and Angel came out. I knew that DSTs females were going to be horrible from then on and that would drive the line into the ground. I am saddened by the lack of Harmony and Gunn, but am looking foreward to new stuff they want to put out.
The one thing that bothered me was that they called them "MAC style figures" and they have played themselves out. Like they are blaming the demise of the line on MAC, when in fact, the two things that turned collecters off to DSTs line were
1. The static poses 2. The scale issues
Neither of which were a problem with MAC figs, or even DST figs up until Fred (which was the end of the MAC sculpts)
Also, They claimed that Fred was huge because of a factory error.......but then when Cordy was released they said 7 inch was their preferred scale. That discredited their later claim that they never wanted to do these in the first place and only did it so the fans could have the unreleased MAC stuff. (Because if you were ONLY doing it for us, why change future figs to fit YOUR liking?)
Basically, Fred and Cordy sucking equals no retailer support equals no "MAC style" Buffy figures. I wish they would just admit there problems instead of blaming it on us, MAC, and japanese factory workers.

DST pretty much killed their own line with those female figures. The last wave I was excited for was the Anya and Tara figures. The pose for the female characters were so bland. They were just...there. The male figures had HUGE upper bodies. Wes and Lorne arent that huge, yet their figures are huge. DST's main problem 2 problems were the pose and paint apps. The scale issue didnt really bother me as much as the pose and paint apps.
I can only hope that DST can come back and turn their company around with the new revamped figures.

The last figure I bought was Chosen Buffy. And I ended up repainting her.
I never bought any of the Freds or Illyrias, I never touched a Xander or a Cordy. I will pick up a Faith and Giles though. But even still, I think they all sucked. And are not the same quality as the MAC ones.
I am a big fan of the deluxe figures though and will support them! But I'm over the DST oversized-factory-problem-oops-we-mean-our-new-preferred-scale. So I will not buy those figures.
Just because they are Buffy figures, doesn't mean we have to buy them if they are sub-par.

Since Anya/Tara/Willow/DHoffryn went so well I don't know why they didn't try to release Adam, Initiative Soldier (and Riley) and some other Unreleased MAC stuff as I'm sure it would have sold better than Fred.........

No! I wanted a Gwen action figure! And Gunn, and Connor, and Harmony, and Riley, ... you get the idea, instead of making the same action figures of some people about twice, they should've just made the characters that they don't have yet...

I love that they say the MAC style figures played out when they never ever made a successful MAC figure themselves. Spike was pretty good I guess, the rest were bland as hell. I bought a couple from lines here and there and I already regret having any of them.
I'm not fussed. I've taken it upon myself to step in where MAC left off. Doyle is my A level project, and I'm going to make the Wes and Lorne we never got too. I'm happy DST were around just so I don't have to make the bases myself hehe.

What really vexes me is that they canceled Surprise Drusilla. She looked like she could have been the best Dru figure yet, and now they're just going to release the other two, which in my opinion aren't as good where likeness is concerned. Surprise Dru seemed to have some movement, whereas the other two seemed to rigid. But, isn't that what DST is best at? Showing us great figures and instead releasing really rigid ones? Don't get me wrong, I like the other two, but I think it would have been great if we could have some life.
Also, is it disturbing to anyone else that they're releasing two more Drusilla figs and two more Oz figs, when they could be releasing Andrew? Not saying I won't buy the two new Drus, as the old ones have escaped my price range, but I really don't need *another* Oz.
I know y'all think I'm crazy, but I'd kill for a Knox figure.

This was not a company that cared about it's fans. And, honestly, the only good wave they ever had was the Willow wave. Really. Compare those figures to all of the other ones they released, and you'll see. Everything else was shit, barely looked like the actors, had ugly bulky bodies and clothing, etc. The only thing they made that fans suggested was the library...which ended up looking like crap and it was too expensive. I won't miss them! I got my Willow figures, that's good enough for me. Their sales weren't doing well, and that's what happens when you repeatedly neglect the fans and don't listen to what they say they want. I'm not entirely pleased with what DST did with the line, but thats a little too far if you ask me. Facial likeness was very good up to Xander/Cordy; more accurate that MAC dare I say. They did a shit load of fan friendly stuff that you better not forget about. Taking up the line at all should count as the biggest one. Wes and Lorne's bases almost certainly cost a lot of money (good old MAC lol). Illyria was probably a pain in the wallet too. They got close to admiting the library was sold at a loss. It didn't seem too expensive to me anyway. They ball's up good and proper with a lot of their releases, no-one can argue that. They had good ideas IMO, the execution suffered. To be honest I wish DST stuck to releasing MAC stuff. Would have been the best of both worlds to me. Neither of which were a problem with MAC figs, or even DST figs up until Fred (which was the end of the MAC sculpts) No it wasn't. Wes, Lorne and Spike were all DST. You could argue a lot of the Anya's were DST too.

I will give you a break, cause if you think the hundred or so members of the buffy figure fan forums are the people keeping Diamond Select afloat you are sorely detatched from the real world. Those characters in the credits were people like Connor, Harmony, Riley and Doyle. 2 of them were largely disliked by a significant number of the show's audience; 1 is a pointless side character, and 1 lasted only 9 episodes. Gunn is the only one who was a real major player. Guess what? DST have conducted much more research into these character's potential success than you have. If they say they aren't big enough to be made, they aren't big enough to be made. It's not ignoring fans; it's just not going out of buisness. Get over it.
I won't argue about the looks of the figures though cause I agree they were shit in comparison to MAC lol.
Side note - I'd bet money Gunn will be made.

I think the figures are pretty boring as well. While some throughout DST's run have been okay, none have been anything super. I would say the better ones were the first Willows (which were really from MAC) and after that my favorites were: OMWF Anya, Buffys, and Spikes.
I think it started going downhill with the Wes/Lorne figures...and got even worse when the Angel/Fred ones dropped.
I have faith in the deluxe line though and plan on fully supporting it!

I too thionk that Wes and Lorne didn't help the line. I liked the idea of having a "Parting Gifts" Wes, "Bad Girls" Wes, "Waiting in the Wings" Wes and "Rain of Fire" Wes but what was the point of Season 4 Wes, I would've rather seen any other Wes or had 1 less figure, plus having each except for the "Bad Girls" version with the same Base, they should've saved that base for a Angel Accessory pack. As for the Lorne figures, how boring were the simple repaints. "Life of the Party" Lorne should've been a new sculpt and should've been the beast version of him in that episode. I would've figured that they would've chosen there waves more carefully:
Wes/Lorne- Different Bases for each figure and different sculpts for the Lorne figures
Gunn/Fred/Illyria- "Warzone" Gunn, "Conviction" Lawyer Gunn, "Not Fade Away" Battle Damaged Gunn "Fredless" Fred "Magic Bullet" Fred, "Conviction" Labcoat Fred, "The House Always Wins" Lornette Fred "Shells" Illyria, Illyria, "Not Fade Away" Mid Transformation Fred/Illyria "Waiting in the Wings" Gunn & Fred 2 pack
Angel/Cordelia/Connor "Conviction" Angel, "Angel" Vampire Angel, "The Ring" Angel, "Graduation Day" Angel, "The Girl in Question" Angel w/Italian Jacket "You're Welcome" Cordelia, "Billy" Cordelia, "The Wish" Cordelia, "Tomorrow" Higher Being Cordelia, "Orpheus" Pregnant Evil Cordelia. "A New World" Connor & "Not Fade Away" Connor "Waiting in the Wings" Angel & Cordelia 2 pack "Smile Time" Puppet Angel, Damaged Puppet Angel & Vampire Puppet Angel 3 pack "There's No Place Like PLRTZ GLRB" Pylean Demon Angel, Pylean Princess Cordelia (with Gold outfit) & Pylean Groosalag (getting yet another character)
As far as the Xander/Cordelia line that was planned they could've always changed it to Xander/Riley/Adam and then had a Giles/Faith/The Mayor line and then have a Drusilla/Oz/Harmony line.

I think alot of what you've said makes sense. I don't think I would ever want a Connor figure. But I like your other break-downs. It's too bad it didn't happen that way.

The Angel/Fred line I think was the real turning point. I thought about how - realistically -things could have been altered, and here's what I got.
(as a fan of MAC Wes) Season 3 Wesley with minor resculpts for Rougue Demon Hunter and Rain of Fire. Lorne choies remain, but I'd prefer better sculpts.
Angel/Fred/Illyria Angel choices as they were. Fred - Regular from "That old gang of mine", Slave (using that same body but with cloth/soft plastic over the top), Illyria's as they were. This still re-uses heavily. Give them all good sculpts of course, and make them in scale.
