DST Revamps Sunnydale...
Diamond Select's ever-evolving line of Buffy the Vampire Slayer action figures is coming to an end... and morphing into somthing new.
The Build-A-Judge Series, now to be divided up into two, three figure waves, will send off Buffy and her 6" scale pals with a bang. Asked why, DST replied that all major and minor characters have been created, and it is time to move on to something new and exciting.
That new and exciting is REVAMPED, a new series of dynamically sculpted, diorama-like figs. Buffy and Angel were on display at Toy Fair in prototype form, each showcasing an interactive pegged environment, swappable heads and torsos. The gimmick on "Revamped" is that the fan can position the figure in numerous battle stances via the foot and peg system: From running up the side of a trash dumpster to slam that stake in the enemy (not included), to standing strong and fast for solo display. Each figure will feature minimal articulation (head, shoulders, waist). "Revamped" figures will retail in the $16-$20 price range with first two releases due out around this summer.
In addition, DST will be ushering in new prop replicas (Faith's Knife and Dulac Cross) as well as an exciting new resin sculpture series. The latter, will capture the Essence of...
* Angel
* Spike
* Willow
* Buffy
Each Jean St. Jean Studio sculpted piece will illuminate in some way (ie: candles with Willow, glowing blue archway for Angel, etc.) and will run around $125 each.

Opinions? Well, I haven't bought anything since the Angel/Fred wave, personally. Still, I'm kind of saddened that the regular line is coming to an end without appearances by Gunn, Harmony, Riley, Connor...etc. Not that Connor is up my alley, but still, it would've been nice to see everybody who ever appeared in the main credits to get the same treatment. However, looking at various figures we have now, some of them don't even look like they're in the same line anyway. I'm psyched for the Revamped figs though, AS LONG AS they remain faithful to the protos! I mean, come on. Some of these results from proto to final are just outlandish. I think it's interesting though to see that the article says there will be numerous battle stances. From what we saw at Toyfare, I just assumed there would be two sets of legs in static poses and then that would be it. It'll be interesting to see just how many poses we'll actually be able to get them to do. On another note...$125 for the statues! d**n. I think we all pretty much knew it'd be around that mark, it's just scary to see it immortalized now with an actual number. I want them badly, as long as they turn out decently, and of course the price seems fair...it'll just put a dent in my bank account, that's for sure. EDIT--Okay, I see D-A-M-N is censorworthy so far! This forum is rated G, folks.

I posted a bit over at bvsfigs, but I apparently didn't read the aritcle fully. Two things I missed include the comments on "all major and minor have been made" and "numerous battle stances". On the first note, is DST really serious? Riley, Doyle, Gunn, Connor, Harmony all made the main title and have yet to even be mentioned by DST. DST sucks. And I hope there are more poses for the revamped figures. Perhaps there were more holes in the ground for pegs that just weren't visible

That's funny that they can do Kennedy but they can't make Harmony, Gunn, Doyle, or Connor. Kennedy wasn't even in the main titles, ever! I think I'm biased because I don't like her, lol.
The statues seem really nice, but they are a bit too expensive for my taste, I may buy them all eventually, but the ones I will get for certain are the Buffy and Angel ones. I'm really really hoping that they make a decent Faith one, if they do I'll snap it up in a heartbeat. Even if I'm not overly happy with the paint jobs on the statues I can always just repaint what I don't like to improve it.

It's weird to me that the logic is "we've done every major and minor character there is". Okay, excuse me? I guess I must've created a bunch of characters in my own MIND over time then, because I seem to recall quite a few that were never done. I know this is going back quite a bit, but do you mean to tell me Darla is more marketable than Harmony? I don't know about that. I never even really cared one way or the other about Darla, and I didn't think there were a whole lot of people who really did, either. Not to say that I HATE her, but she was never at the top of my list. And I agree about the statues. Even when I was looking at the pictures, I was thinking I definitely wanted to get Buffy and Angel...and at that price point, even though it seems fair as long as quality work is done on them, I don't think I could justify spending so much money to get them all...if I even end up being able to get any! I can't wait to find out more about the Revamped figures, too.

I exhibit no surprise as they've killed the line themselves by lucklustre prototypes back up by appalling final products. Although I'm infuriated that we still haven't got a Gunn or a Harmony. Going without a Doyle or Connor I could live with but not those two! Characters with huge popularity and so important to the show.
Whatever, I'm over it.

I don't mind the ending of the standard type figures. Personally I enjoy the deluxes more anyway.
As far as records go, I think DST had better likeness and stuff with the Deluxes as well.
The excuse about what character is more marketable is complete BS. Kennedy is in now way more popular than Gunn of Harms. I think they just did Kenn to pair with Willow.

I really think DST should have sorted out there priorities.
1) Keep the figures SIX INCH.
2) Do the regular characters first. Sure we all begged for a Glory (we got 2), A D'hofferyn, A Judge, A wood, A kendra... But now because these have been made - the major characters left haven't been made and now it's too late. Besides, common sense would tell you that more popular characters would sell better.
Gunn would have sold better over Wood. Harmony would have sold better than Kennedy. etc etc

I'm OK with DST switching to revamped line instead. The latest lines were simply awful quality-wise so I much rather pay few bucks more to get a better product and these dioramas are just that. ;D

Bleh. I'd be fine with props with the figures, but the voice boxes are a no for me. I hate the price raise they cause and I never use them. And knowing DST, no prop they make will be cheap enough. I hope DST does something right with these revamped

I cannot express how disappointed I am that they are ending the 6" line without ever making a Gunn figure. He was on all 5 seasons of Angel, and he was a regular for 4. How they can say that they have made all of the majore characters is beyond me.

It's sad to see the line come to an end, but I will still be happy with Deluxe Figures. Hopefully they will continue with the Deluxe Line and release figures of Gunn, Harmon and Riley.
As for the revamped, that is not a bad price at all.
Also the statues are rather expensive but hopefully the BCC will have them for a more reasonable price.

The statues are nice but do seem expensive, way out of my league I'm afraid. I agree with so much of what's already said, Gunn, Riley, Harmony, Lilah and so many others that weren't made is rotten. I feel kind of stupid because I don't really understand the revamped thing but the price seems good and the Buffy face I saw was pretty good but lacked expression like someone else said. The deluxe bodies don't appeal to me but the faces are good, too bad I don't customize because they are so suited to customizers. I guess I won't be collecting much Buffy stuff anymore but will always enjoy all my old stuff and don't think I could bear to ever part with any of my figures, even though I'll never get all the characters I want now.

When i look at my 6' figures and see how different size they are, I say to myself "stopping them to create a new kind of figures is not so bad !" I just wish they could have, at least, make all the same size for the figures we have .. but what's done is done ! The idea to have different legs and head sounds nice ! I just wait to see the final product !

I agree with the stuff about how the scale and quality is totally shot anyway and so up and down like a rollercoaster that some of the characters look like they're from different lines anyway.
The only thing that upsets me about ditching the 6" line completely is that with the new figures, now we have to go through the rounds of Buffy, Angel, Spike etc. and all the huge characters before we'll probably even have a CHANCE at the characters we haven't gotten yet, and who knows at this point if we'll even make it far enough for that to be a possibility.
