I've been reading a lot around here about who everyone thinks will betray Buffy. In 8.10, we learn that Buffy will suffer from "Betrayal. The closest, the most unexpected."
There's one theory that I haven't seen on here yet, and that is, what if Buffy betray's herself? Wouldn't that be the "closest, the most unexpected" betrayal that anyone could have, if they betray themselves? I'm not quite sure yet how Buffy would betray herself, other than maybe going against her morals (maybe she kills a human?) for some reason or another, but I think its definitely a viable option, and one that would prove to have some storytelling strength.

It's been discussed.
I think it would seem cheap, and a let-down cop out.

I don't think its insane at all to think that Buffy would betray herself. Personally, I think its too obvious for someone like Willow, Xander, or even Dawn to betray her, because that would be taking the "closest betrayal" thing too easily. We all expect one of those three to betray Buffy, because they are the closest people to her. And as far as Satsu is concerned, she and Buffy are close, but I mean, come on, that's a set up waiting to happen as far as betrayal is concerned. I would consider THAT a cop out more than anything else.

I also thought that was a possible scenario. For me, it wouldn't be a cop out. It would be a very Joss storyline to have. I think it could be a fascinating way to develop Buffy, delving into her self destructive personality traits. Which having said that, makes me think it would be a great way to form a bond between Faith and Buffy again. Faith see's Buffy going down a very self destructive path, she makes a huge mistake, screws herself over, and then Faith helps her pick up the pieces and put everything back together.
For me, out of all of the possible suspects, Dawn would be the most shocking. Buffy's own sister betrays her. That would be heartbreaking to see. But if it's Xander, Willow or even Giles, it would still break my heart to see her betrayed like that. She already has trust issues!

I don't think its insane at all to think that Buffy would betray herself, either.I'm still leaning toward the scythe-called slayers, myself.

Most of us would go with Willow, but I think that would be...you know what I mean. xD
I think Giles maybe...

It has been discussed before, and I personally don't really think it would be good storytelling at all. It's the same thing for me if Twilight happens to turn out to be a new character, I just don't see either happening. The betrayer has to be someone other than Buffy, because (imo) Buffy would feel more betrayed or hurt if someone close to her did the betraying. If Buffy did something to herself that counted as a betrayal, I don't see her getting that bent out of shape over it, as opposed to one of her close friends (or family) doing it.
Plus the scene in #10 that shows Buffy scratched, beaten, and crying adds more evidence that someone will be hurting her. I don't see her razor blading herself and crying like that.
When all is said and done though, we really don't have any idea what will happen. Based on what I've seen though, I just don't see Buffy betraying herself.

I think Buffy will do something that she won't be able to forgive herself for. It seems most likely, since I bet she is the whole time looking out for people who might be possessed and ready to kill her. After Angel in season 2, Riley in season 5, Willow in season 6 and the gang throwing her out in season 7, I think the one she trust the most is herself.

Maybe the power of the Slayer will betray her because she upset the balance between good and evil?
Too far-fetched?

I would be very, very disappointed if it is buffy that betrays herself...
I think it is highly unlikely anyway. The logical choices are Dawn, Xander, or Giles (Willow has already betrayed her more or less).
Dawn or Xander would hurt Buffy the most.

first off i'm slow on the uptake so sorry if anyone's already posted this (i usually do this before everyone of my few posts) but having just read TOYL Part 2 i had a thought. robin never stated "Buffy was betrayed. Fact." Maybe Buffy betrays Willow...so Buffy could be the betrayer but not the betrayee...who knows x

I even think Buffy is in some kind of way Twilight herself...
I've discussed this allready and nobody wanted to listen:P:P:P
See the facts...
She steals money She declares war to human race Sche kills enemies very boldly...even if they help her... She knows how she fights herself... She is the most unexpected betrayer...
It would be brilliant...
I can't imagine a genious concept will become so bad that they even need old Big Bads to come back.
It will be clear very soon: Willow is not Dark Willow...Willow is the only good one in future...the only one who wants to rewrite history... a bad-Buffy history...
