What would you do at this point? What characters would you bring back? What characters would you kill off? What kind of characters would you introduce? Where would you take the story from here?

If Joss knows where season 9 is going. Id throw in a foreshadowing of something for season 9. Not something that leads us all into "who betrays her??" "or who is it on the phone??" Something that we'd only realise once season 9 had happened.

I would make Buffy pregnant with Ethan Rayne's baby. DUH. If it were an arc, I would pit Kennedy against a demon that has a personal vendetta against her, and have her die. Either that, or have Willow find out that Kennedy cheated on her. >: ) And then on the final page of the last issue I would bring Tara back, but I want her to hide from Willow and only show herself to Buffy until she finds out she's stable, alive, and not evil. Or something of the sort.

I'd have Dawn betray Buffy. It would bring the pain.
Twilight would be Ethan Rayne. He wouldn't be trying to end magic, just restore the balance of good and evil, by reducing the Slayer population to a normal level. It would be reminiscent of him saying that what the Initiative was doing in season four was "way beyond chaos". Him appearing dead in The Long Way Home was a glamour. And he was working with General Voll and planned that to be Buffy and his first meeting, where she discovers that it's not only demons that they're fighting against now.
Kennedy would stay in New York with her squad. Willow would visit occasionally. They would have a nice long distance relationship and both be happy.
I'd reintroduce Satsu later in the series and she'd save Buffy in some way. Reaffirming her love for Buffy. They would not get back together.
When Oz comes back he would become a regular character again. There would not be anything sexual between him and Willow. Only friendship.
I really don't know what I'd do with Xander. The only thing I can think of at the moment is, I'd have him develop into a real leader, still leading squads and being Buffy's second in charge.
Season Eight would end with most of the Slayers being killed in a huge battle. Twilight will have coerced Simone and many other renegade groups of Slayers from around the world into joining with him and fighting against Buffy. Buffy will win, but with many losses.
Season Nine would then lead up to Buffy's final stand against the demons.

Kennedy was part of the advance team that Willow sent to scope out the sitch. As of #16, it's unknown if Kennedy actually heads a squad. Actually, scratch that... it's unknown what Kennedy does for the most part, or even where she usually hangs.

I have to admit some of it is just beacuse Kennedy get too mush crap. I figure I get a bunch of people being mad about it. Killing Tara again would be cruel even for anyone.
Thou the only thing I would do is finally tell who Twilight is. Becuse I am dying to know.

No, she said "We're working with the Manhattan squad (run by Vi) on security and housing, by MY GROUP's taking point on the op" So while I'll concur that we don't know WHICH squad Kennedy is running (and if it's based in New York), she is in fact, running one.

I'd do only a few things by season's end:
1) Reveal who Twilight is.
2) Have Buffy realize that everything she's been working to stop has been happening because of her actions. The end of magic will come because of her actions during S8 and S9 (if that's when magic ends, in S9).
3) And finally, Buffy would be dethroned as the leader of the Slayers, after many of them died in the season ending battle, leaving the Scoobs in dire straights as to how they will continue the good fight on a global scale.
4) Oh yea, I'd also have someone give Buffy the slip about Spike.

I would NOT have magic end in ANY season because it's a crappy ending. Seriously, what's the point of magic ending? That would ruin the whole series for me.

I'll give you that, but I'd still argue that it's uncertain if Kennedy has a steady gig as squad leader, or just headed that away team. The Slayer hierarchy is still uncertain for now, and just how the pecking order runs is still kinda iffy. For now, it can really be argued either way with Kennedy. Truce until it's revealed?

This whole "magic ending" thing really is questionable. If magic ends, then everything involving magic would cease to exist, which would equal the real world we all live in. No monsters, demons, vampires, slayers, witches, werewolves, anything else that might have a remote relationship with magic. My guess is that "magic ending" is a misnomer, because someone inbetween Buffy's time and Fray's time just didn't get it. Maybe magic goes dormant for a while then makes a come back. Magic is such a big force in the Buffyverse that it's kind of like one of those things we wouldn't be able to control--like mother nature. It has a "mind" of its own and cannot be held back.

Right now after issue 16:
98% of the slayer in the castle is dead(let's say that two of a hundred were visting their sick grandmams.
After Buffy comes home from the future and New York, she discovers that she has no slayers in Scotland and that the rest of the slayers of the world are doubting her. More and more slayers are leaving and become rouges or go home to their ordinary lives.
Xander & Dawn are fine after the explosion. The Scoobies finaly find Kenny(about damn time) and he explains that he did curse Dawn, but that it's temporary. Dawn will eventually turn into a mermaid and then an ordinary human again.
Xander&Dawn get drunk, kiss, regret it and never speak of it again(there, no more Dander).
Buffy&Xander will not be a couple. As a matter of fact, no more romance for either one of them in season 8. Satsu and Renee already got that covered.
Xander will do something cool. Something life-saving, butt-kicking, smart, awesome.
Someone will be possessed.
More and more slayers will leave Buffy's army. Perhaps new independent squads will be formed, fighting/joining evil.
Harmony will visit, try to be evil, and as she runs away screaming "Next time Buffy" she will trip and land on something wodden and pointy.
Twilight is the prince, and the only way to save him is to kill him.
Buffy fails and betrays herself (her morals or something).
Dawn dies(everyone will expect Giles and demand to have Willow & Xander left, so it'll probably be Dawn).
Satsu will stay in Tokyo, get a scar over her face(charming and cool). Before The Final Fight, she comes back to Buffy with some important info. She acts all cool and Buffy wants her, just a little bit(I bet she regrets not going on atleast one date with Satsu). Before the Final Battle, they have a passionate kiss/sex.
Willow will tease/argue with Buffy about something, and to shut her up Buffy kisses her. Willow will then walk away, leaving Buffy the winner. Then Buffy realizes what she's done and blushes.
In The Final Fight, the slayers will come as a second calavry and save/help Buffy.
That's what I got so far.

First off like faithswatcher said I would have a few panels foreshadow, very discreetly, about season 9. I heart foreshadowing.
Anyway I would start getting to the main focus of the story whether it be about magic ending, twilight, Dawn or whatever. I want to start to see things come together. Even if it is just for a few comics I want to learn more about what is going on.
I'd get rid of some of the extra Slayers. There are too many and its starting to ruin the story a bit for me. Or since the Slayers were all killed(if I was writing the story)in the castle have the rest of them break away from Buffy, blaming her for their incompetence.
At the end of ti all I would have it all be about Buffy. Have it that Twilight or whoever the final big bad of this season is just cares about Buffy. I would have a scene with every character(Faith, Giles, all the Slayers, EVERYONE)and have the big bad totally ignore them and show that Buffy is the only one that matters. I'm tired of this being called Buffy and having 25443243 other people who are as strong(er) as her.
For season 9, if it is the final one, I would have Buffy alone for a bit away from her friends. Have her really grow and when she comes back she shows them the great leader she is meant to be. Have her be an even better fighter, wiser, etc but still be Buffy deep down. Then by the end of season 9 have her have a boyfriend who STAYS! Whether it be Spike, Angel or someone else.

I would finally like to see Buffy and Faith put the past behind them. I realize that alot of nasty stuff went down there, but they are supposedly on the same side and it seems whenever the two of them are together it always ends up going back to Season 3. I feel a true reconciliation is in order.
I would like to see Dawn become an official member of the team. She is an adult now, I feel its time. Have her go through her third change, which should also be something serious not comical. And have her get through it on her own two feet, proving she is no longer just "Buffy's little sister". Her character has stagnated for far too long, we need some major development.
I'd like to see Xander take some time off and re-evaluate the life he has chosen. After working through his loss and grief, see him come back to the fold with a whole new outlook on his role and how vital he truly is to the team. He should play a big role in the final arc of this season.
I'd like to see Willow fully understand what it means to have all the power she does and that its her responsibility to use it wisely. I could see her becoming a bastion for the responsible use of magic and how one would control it. I'd like to see her in a "teacher" role, where she would show those with innate magic abilities how to use it responsibly. Also I would like to see her settle down and fighting side by side with Buffy, no more of this flitting around and showing up pretty much only when a big spell is needed. I'm thinking she has a bat signal or something now, hehe.
Giles. I would love to see Buffy get herself in a situation to where she sees how she still needs him. I don't want him to be sequestered off too much longer, though I do like the idea of him and Faith becoming attached. Faith could definitely use a "watcher". A strong relationship between them two seems fitting. Also once Giles is welcomed back, I'd like to see him become the full head of the Watcher's Council, and have that mean something again. I'd like to see him and Buffy be equals in command.
Faith needs to finally come into her own, put her past behind her and start fresh. Stop holding Buffy responsible for her mistakes, etc. I don't need her to become a full fledged member of the gang, but I want her to be seen as a powerful and respected ally to Buffy.
With Oz coming back, I'd like to see that he has fully gained control of the wolf inside of him to where he can change at will and also have control when he is in wolf-form. I would like to see that he has fully moved on after Willow. I don't want him to be attached when he shows up, but just that he no longer feels that way about her. Instead I'd see those two having a strong friendship. I was contemplating that a romantic interest for him could possibly be Dawn. Their two personalities would conflict in an interesting way. He is older, but Dawn is a woman now and I think he could have a very good calming effect on her. I would also like to see him stay with the gang for good this time around.
I would like to Andrew come out, if he is gay. If not then he should start dating one of the slayers to everyone's shock. I'd like to see what Wood has been up to, maybe have him come back to play a central role in an arc. I would like to see Kennedy and Willow decide what they want from each other, a stable relationship or they end it amicably so they could both move on.
Now for Buffy, I'd like to see her losing her control over the slayers. Have some turn against her and have her reevaluate the choices shes been making. I'd like to see her having to rely on her friends more and that yet again together they are a stronger force than separated. As for Satsu, I'd like to see them stay friends and have Satsu move on from a romantic only skew of their relationship. Buffy realizes that she is not exactly bisexual but that love and lust happen all over the place, its all "fluidy". I don't want to see anymore focus on Buffy's romantic life this season, I'd like to see her work on Buffy instead. I want her to be stripped of her leader role, to struggle and have her come back even better at it and realizing exactly where her morals, views, and goals lie.
By the end of this season I want the gang back together. If Season 9 were to be the last season, I want the gang to be stronger than ever for that season for that should be the end all be all epic event we would expect. And the only way to make it through would be for them to be reconciled with all the right allies and for the core group to be stronger than ever with very little ambiguity.
