Ok....I need to rant.
I was up till 2 in the morning, and I cant stop thinking about who Twilight could be.
I've watched Buffy since it started, never missed an episode, and been obsessed with it since I was a kid ... I have every episode on DVD and have read nearly everything ever printed about Buffy! I've been obsessing with friends about who Twilight could be...and myself and my friends have come up with a list of suspects...the obvious Riley, to Oz, then to the gang...Xander, Andrew and even Spike and Angel (even though we blatantly know that they are in After The Fall) ...
I recently read in an old magazine that Joss Whedon loves the character of Ethan Rayne, including him in series 2, 3 and 4 of Buffy, as well as Buffy novels and also video games. I read that Joss found the character interesting a knew he could always use him to cause mayhem in Sunnydale (which in my thinking, is probably why he never killed him off in the series).
As we know, Ethan Rayne was killed in The Long Way Home, presumably by General Voll. I have to be honest...this surprised me, as, from what I had read...I knew Joss liked this character. I found it odd that Ethan was in it for five minutes and then the next thing we know, he¡¦s dead? Now, I know Joss is a fan of surprise and loves taking away the characters we love...Tara, Anya...the list goes on...so was Joss aiming for shock value?? Or was there something more...
Shoot me (no pun intended) but I think Twilight...is Ethan Rayne.
Evidence:
> In Season Four ('A New Man') Ethan is taken away by the government, under the orders of Riley Finn. We later find in The Long Way Home, Voll, and maybe the whole facility is under the command of Twilight.
>The next time we see Ethan, apart from in Buffy's Dreamspace or whatever, is in custody of the government, and General Voll. Ethan has supposedly been killed by Voll...in what appears to be a very shadowy room, not clearly revealing his wound. It could be said it is simply a trick of the light.
> The government locate Amy Madison under the remains of Sunnydale. They negotiate with Amy, who eventually attacks Buffy by throwing her into a deep sleep, where she encounters Ethan Rayne. Why him of all people, I hear you cry?? My theory is, if Ethan is Twilight, and has managed to take control of or corrupt the government, he has used Amy to do exactly what he wanted to. Amys spell sends Buffy into a deep sleep that allows her to encounter Ethan, which is exactly what he wanted. The spell allows Ethan to talk to Buffy, allows him to pretend that he is on her side by aiding her through her Dreamspace and finally physically showing Buffy the XXX symbol. This later leads Buffy exactly where Ethan wants her to be, which is the room 30...leading her right to his corpse. I think Ethan has faked his death, and General Voll is in on it. Buffy, now thinking Ethan is dead, would never think he was Twilight. This whole scheme has effectively put Ethan out of mind as a suspect for Twilight! Ethan appears in her Dreamspace to simply show Buffy the information she needs to locate Ethan. Suspicious?
The masked Twilight, is later revealed to be working with Warren and Amy, (Time Of Your Life #1)
In No Future For You, Faith stabs Giles with a fork, revealing his tattoo. The tattoo pays homage to the demon Eygon the Sleepwalker, whom both Giles and Ethan conjured during a spell gone wrong. The only living people with this tattoo are Giles and Ethan. I found it unlikely that we have a close up shot of the tattoo itself and Faith showing her surprise at how she never knew Giles had a tattoo...without it having meaning. It is obviously going to come into play later. This to me seemed like something that connected both Giles and Faith, something they had in common. WRONG! The reference to the tattoo is no coincidence. I am willing to bet any amount of money that the tattoo will come into play later in the story and my theory is, it will be revealed that Twilight has the mark of Eygon on his body, leading everyone, including Buffy and the gang to believe that Giles is Twilight (especially due to his recent arguments with Buffy, which seem to have not been properly resolved since Season 7 Lies My Parents Told Me. With Buffy thinking Ethan is dead who else could it be but Giles??
Also, to me it seems that the arc No Future For You, is a great example of Twilights manipulation skills. We know, from Rodens book with Twilights symbol on it, he is a lackey of Twilight himself. Even Lieutenant Molter refers to Roden and Gigi as Twilights goons. Twilight then says that they weren't his minions they were his targets. This suggests that they, like the pawns they are, were used simply for a purpose. And this purpose is to pitch watcher against warlock, and slayer against slayer. Ethan knows the strength of Buffys friends from the past, and therefore knows that to successfully take Buffy down, her followers must be eliminated also. Gigi and Rodens involvement has simply severed Buffys connection with Faith and Giles, a slayer and a watcher. Similarly to this, Twilight let Warren and Amy have free reign over what happened to Willow in Long Way Home. They too are pawns, and if they had killed Willow, they would have lost Buffy one of her most powerful weapons, a very powerful witch.
Very clever Mr. Rayne!! Very clever.
Having said this we all know Twilights mission is to erase magic. And we know Ethan is not only uses magic, but is a known worshipper of Chaos, this is the only thing I cannot crack.
I understand I could be insane. Can someone help. Please read what I have written and someone please side with me!! lol my best friend agrees with me, and another friend simply stared out the window and didnt really care for what I had to say. I also cannot believe that people think Twilight is Caleb. When Buffy attempts to slice Twilight in half with the scythe Caleb-style and Twilight mentions that he has seen that move before this DOES NOT mean it HAS to be someone in that room (Angel, Spike and Caleb) it simply means that Twilight has been in the game a while, hes been watching from the shadows and he knows what hes up against, a slayer who is quickly losing generals.
Someone help me before I go even madder than I already am?
Anyone agree?
Anyone think its impossible??
(I TOTALLY WANT CREDIT IF IM RIGHT!!)
(If I am wrong...I will cut myself in half...starting with my crotch)
