Heres a snipit of what Allie said at the SDCC '08 - Dark Horse Comics Panel Link: www.newsarama.com/comics/080726-comiccon-dark-horse.html- Buffy Season 8 will finish up a crossover with characters from Whedon's former comic series Fray, then Jeph Loeb is coming on for a single issue that will pick up on a "couple of things they weren't able to do with Buffy." After that, Jane Espenson, who was a writer for the Buffy television show, will kick off a five-issue arc featuring stories by the show's TV writers. In the story, Buffy's world goes public. "Vampires become common knowledge and it changes everything for the slayers," Allie said. Following that arc, Espenson comes back for five-issue arc featuring Oz. Then Brad Meltzer will be writing five issues before the series wraps up.

I wonder if that means a big bad is going to be a vampire politician or something. He announces himself and talks about how wonderful it is to be a vampire. Then the slayers can't get to him b/c of his position.

Or hey, we're living in a PC world right now. There have been articles, scholarly papers, etc written, comparing Buffy's actions to genocide. So if vampirism comes into fashion, I can see the picketers right now, petitioning for demon rights, etc. Also, technically (and this is true for many, but not all vampires), they are sired without being given a choice. And so, you could argue that they're victims of chance, and to have an entire army of girls running around with sharp sticks, poking at them... well, you know. Some people have odd ideals.

I think worldwide exposure is a brilliant idea if the upshot is that the human world will rise up and consider vampire and Slayer alike their enemy -- because that's the threat that Voll spelled out in 8.04 and the most sure way for Twilight to realize his agenda.
The hippie dippies marching for vampire rights against evil Slayers thing would be a high, high risk for becoming campy in a way that makes the original Buffy movie look like "Schindler's List", though.

I dunno. I could see Joss pulling it off. Remember Twilight's way of taking Buffy down? Removing her moral certainty. Seeing people standing up for the vamps might put Buffy in a whole new world of gray. Angel and Spike were exceptions for obvious reasons but what about other vampires? Not saying it's likely but we'll find out. The more likely idea is that the world will side against both slayer and vampire/demon.

Sounds great. It's about time people realize that there is more to their world. I wonder if things are gonna end up like they did in the wishverse.

What a freaking brilliant idea that Joss came up with..... but a downright stupid one on Buffy's part. People are going to get themselves killed! "Changes things for the Slayers"? Wonder in a good way. What about the rest of the world, though? Allie also said that vampire become the new "vogue", that sounds dangerous!
Can't wait to see how this plays out.

I'm scared to death about this. The streets will run red with slayers' blood, I can feel it. I hope at the end of the arc, a spell is cast over the public to make them forget everything.

I hope at the end of the arc, a spell is cast over the public to make them forget everything. 1-That's not gonna happen. Sorry but issue 21 has been labeled for a long time as the turning point of the season where EVERYTHING changes. This isn't going away. 2-Why would you want this wiped away right after it happens? That would make the whole arc pointless and stupid. 3-Slayers are pretty capable of taking care of themselves. I do wonder if pseudo-witch(slayer) hunts will start up though. That'd be a nifty route for Joss to take. 4-Again, it'd be cheap and incredibly worthless to do this arc and then essentially delete its effects.

Freakin spooky, I had more or less the same Idea for my Faith fan fic. Basically Giles is in the middle of re-building the watchers council and in the process he finds that he/they can no longer keep the people of these cities in the dark about what has been happening...vampire attacks/demons and rougue slayer. He finds the bect way to ensure the saftey other now is to tell them everything. Now he is not telling EVERYONE, he informs important people about the news. US Army, Head of police stations, senators and mayors all get to know and this helps keep their cities safe. Buffy has always said that cops can't handle these situations and wouldn't know what to do, so why not tell them what to do. So basically Giles is the new head of the Watchers Council and is spreading the word about what is really going on when night hits their cities. It will be interesting to read this when it comes out and see what comes true of my fan fic or if I was way off. Some of the stuff from my Angel season 6 has come to be in After The Fall, extra spooky, but fun too

Wow, everyone knowing about vampires, the end of magic?
I always thought it was fun that people didn't know, or maybe they did and they didn't talk about it. Season 8 sounds like it could be starting to be like a bad fanfic, taking away themes of the shows.

It's about time that the world stops being oblivious to vampires. ABOUT time.

It seems really odd that this, of all plot developments, comes up just as HBO is ready to roll out it's new vampire series, "True Blood" (based on a set of novels), which is primarily about a world in which... vampires are common knowledge to the world.
I don't know whether or not to think Joss is being intentionally derivitive so that he can present his own version of that premise first and better, or if he just never gave it any thought.

I would think that this would make it even easier for the slayers. If everyone knows there are Vampires in the world then they would be scared to death. Especially when it's explained to them what happens after you are turned into a Vamp. I'm sure you will have groups of people who desperately want to be a Vamp, like that episode with the cult. But ultimately once people figure out that the slayers are the only ones who can protect them, I would think that they would give them anything they want or need. Unless all humans are brainwashed, I think that this should work in the favor of the slayers.
