Maybe we can try and start a "Buy Season 8 Day"... a set day that can hopefully be spread around all Buffy sites where we all go out and buy either an issue, TPB, and so on.

I would totally be down for that, and would pretty much buy whatever. It's normal, with the crappy economy these days, that some things people don't consider essential to go down in sales, but not for me! I'll forgo many many many things before my Buffy is taken away from me. Like, almost everything.

Numbers are out for #29....
50,194. Came in at #28 on the list. Held on to its claim as the top-selling independent comic (i.e., not Marvel or DC).
I just wish those numbers would stop going down every month.

Hopefully the two Joss issues in the next couple months will provide a bump, as will the upcoming Twilight reveal.

Numbers are already out for #30: 49,155, #35 on the list. Sigh. I guess as usual, only the hardcore fans will stick around to see how it ends.

Well... as long as it remains profitable for Dark Horse, S9 won't be in any danger of being pulled before it happens. *crosses fingers* I like to think that Dark Horse is perhaps a little less cutthroat than FOX.

Well, Buffy is still not only Dark Horse's #1 title, but the #1 indepenedent title. So I don't think there's any danger they'd cancel the book. But it's lost more than 50% of its readership since the start. Used to be a top 20 book every single month, and now it's not really close any more. I think Predators & Prey is really starting to look like a big mistake. It was just too long to take readers out of the main story. Now it will be very, very difficult to get those people back. On the other hand, maybe they'll decide this is a good time to get Buffy and Satsu back together.

I was on board the first time, or first couple of times, but if this happens just to bump up readership, I will cry foul. Just about every CW TV show is now cashing in on some HGOGA and I'm beginning to find it all very trite and exploitative.

I was kidding about wanting them to do it to boost sales (it didn't really have any impact the first time)... but bear in mind we were told a while back that their story together wasn't over yet (for better or worse)... so don't hold it against them if they do get back together. It will have all been part of the story plan.

I figured you were kidding, and yeah, I'm aware that there might be more shenanigans planned, so we'll see. I guess it all depends on the tone and presentation.

... but bear in mind we were told a while back that their story together wasn't over yet (for better or worse) omg, their story arc isn't over??.....that's awesome, i didn't hear about that......let's hope it isn't for worse tho'.... though it would be frustrating if they used them for ratings....predictable cuz this so isn't the first time writers use lesbianism/relationships/flings (the last part more specifically) for rating boosts....nor will it be the last.

I updated the chart! It's on the first page! I also added a TPB table, for those interested!

Cool!
Bear in mind that Diamond's TPB chart only represents a small percentage of the book's actual sales. Unlike monthly issues, 90% of which are sold in comic shops stocked by Diamond, most TPB's are bought in regular bookstores and places like Amazon, which get them through their own distributors.
But the fact that the TPB sales continue to be so high despite the steady decline in the monthly comic sales pretty much confirms what I thought... that new readers are mostly reading the book via the trades and not buying the comics.

Thanks for the info, Andrew! I didn't even think about that! It's great the the TPBs haven't been lower than #3. I know that I stopped buying single issues and only buy the comics now, so I can relate.
