Guys...I think I got it...
During whole season 6 and 7, Dawn has the feeling she gets neglected by Buffy and all potentials. For example, she steals to get attention. She feels useless all the time.
Now she somehow managed to make herself usefull...even without knowing it. Think about it. She has to fight a MechaDawn...without her help the whole Buffy squad whould be squashed like a tomato... and directly after that... she becomes a centaur... And poof... Castle is burning down and she is the only escape opportunity of Xander... She'll probably alter to another form in which she is usefull for the team.
Coincidence? I really don't think. She managed to make herself usefull as only non-slayer girl in the castle...no thricewice...no twilight...just the power of positive thinking and a little magic:)

Is Dawn going to find herself? Is she going to realize that no matter what shape, size, or form she is, she is brave and can do whatever she wants? Again I ask, is Dawn going to grow up and find herself... FINALLY? I hope so! That makes the story arc mean something.

wow I like this theory... I would like to see Dawn become more mature... maybe become Willows student ( I mean she did bring her mom from the grave and she casted that spell to banish a demon). If she did do this to herself maybe she is good at magic..?

I'm glad that someone else is seeing her arc and liking(?) it. There's still a lot of people who just see her as a winy teen who's there so Buffy can have someone to save.

If i understood that right, i dont believe it. The mecha dawn was made BECAUSE dawn had become a giant. If she hadnt been a giant, the mecha dawn wouldnt have been created. And she turned into a centaur before the castle had been attacked. If she turned into something useful, BECAUSE the castle had been attacked, then yeah sure.

Oh, wait, you believe that her tricewise-iness is because ... the universe saw that the scoobies needed it?
I should have read the whole post, I just saw "Dawn is finding herself" and got happy.

Unless you meant. Stage 1 - she finally becomes useful as a giant, so turns into the next stage. Stage 2 - Being a centaur helped the scoobies/xander, so in THEORY, she should be stage 3ing it some time soon. Stage 3 - Once whatever it is she turns into becomes useful. She will turn back into normal dawn having gained some place within the scoobies.
I like that theory.

I really enjoyed the Giant Dawn metaphor, she needed to grow up, and well, she did grow up.

Well Dawn is useful in this storyline. Things with her and Buffy are still rocky shes getting closer to Xander. She pretty much saved him in the castles. I think something big will be coming to Dawn soon. I mean Joss would have something working up for her. He just gotta her last storyline really was her being the key. She needs more. I love Dawn shes great and sure she was whiny and what ever but she was meant to be. After all she was a kid sister. Plus you know finding out your not real kinda would make anyone whiny.

wait. i just thought of something. hear me out. if twilight is not a guy and is in fact a girl, and if dawn keeps turning into different things because of her thricewise ex, then couldn't one of her transformations been a mental state of evil and then manifested into twilight? or could one of her transformations be twilight? it's crazy, i know, but it's just crazy enough to make sense. Thoughts?

Interesting theory, but then how did Dawn and Twilight co-exist in the present time.

ok guys i was reading the dawn theory thread and something strucked me,that i never really thought of.Weve all been thinking in a very constructed manner.I mean obviously the writers gave us the thricewise thing to throw us off,to reveal something huge with dawn, like they did with the drusilla/willow thing. But could it be that the reason dawn is changing and all this craziness with her is happing because shes the key,i mean she is still the key and there could be side effects or something, idk.but dawn is still the key and we all tend to forget this and think just because glorys dead that it doesnt make her the key, there could very well be some key buisness goin on here, lol.and i mean joss has always wanted to explore dawn as the key,he originally wanted her to be able to move things with her mind or read minds, idk i think it was the first one,but i mean why not now he has all the freedom in the world to explore her character now in comics!!!thoughts?

This gave me an idea.. ( spoilers ) we know that in Fray all magics banished right? They banished into another dimension ( or more of them ) and as the Key Dawn's blood opened portal to all dimensions. Maybe Twilight is doing this to Dawn so her blood can, once again, open the portal only this time he wants to use it to banish magics???

Interesting theory, but then how did Dawn and Twilight co-exist in the present time. Well Lorne and his manifested sleep did that in l ife of the party. I'm sure Dawn's subconscious could to that too.

Dawn said to Spike in season six that she is "not the key anymore...and even if I am I don't open anything" so I sounds like her only power was opening the gateway to Glory's dimension. In real life Joss has probably jsut done all of this with Dawn becasue even he knows her charcter is pretty uselless and he can't kill her off so he came up with a mini arc for her to go through in season 8, only problem is what will he do with her in season 9? I'd liek to see Dawn actually becoming a scooby like in season 7 and willow teaching her to become a practising witch like she was in season 4.

I'm sure Dawn's arc means more, and that she's related to Twilight somehow. The opening portals theory works for me.

Ah, the eternal question "Is Dawn still the Key?"
Dawn thinks so, but can something that powerful just, what, fade away? i hope we find out. I mean she is The Key. She must be able to open up anumber of dimensions. but taht's another discussion in another thread.

Ah, the eternal question "Is Dawn still the Key?" Dawn thinks so, but can something that powerful just, what, fade away? i hope we find out. I mean she is The Key. She must be able to open up anumber of dimensions. but taht's another discussion in another thread. Long story short, Dawn is able to open up portals to an infinite number of dimensions. She's just a ball of energy, essentially. When Glory opened the gates to her own hell dimension, she also opened the gates to various other hell dimensions. She is still the Key; as you said, how do you just have all that power fade away. I think the point was that there were certain times at which the Key could be used to open the gates to different hell dimensions; Glory was hard-pressed for time because she felt that she was losing her grip in this dimension, that Ben was slowly winning. That much was explicit. But there's also the implicit hint that there were portents that foretold when the Key could be used. Glory's goons were reading bones or something, and the signs told them that the time was fast approaching. So it was probably a specific time, like when the planets aligned or something. Probably some very rare event that only happened once every century or something. Which would also explain another possibility for Glory's anxiety; she was trapped in a mortal body. As long as that body died, she died too... and if it was an exceedingly rare occasion, who knows if Ben would still have been alive for the next time.
