Just got a hold of this today. It's a really hilarious book on entertaining and cooking from Amy Sedaris (Strangers With Candy, Wigfield) that harkens back to a time when entertaining was charmingly old-fashioned "like courtship, or back-alley abortions." I'm not very far in, but I've already learned all kinds of charming bits of info. For instance; "Never outdress the hostess unless you are the guest of honor, or a transvestite." "A good trick is to fill your medicine cabinet with marbles. Nothing announces a nosey guest better than an avalanche of marbles hitting a porcelain sink. Plus you'll know which guest is a junkie whore or gutter hyper, and you'll know what else to hide. Count your stash or remove the label from your prescription bottles." "Accentuate the positive, medicate the negative!" It even has an entire section dedicated to cooking for the munchies. Anyone else been have this? What were your favorite bits of advice/recipes?

I haven't read this book, but Amy Sedaris is one of the few people I would take hospitality or cooking advice from. She has this insidious sense of humour that is hilarious. I just took a sneak peak at the book in question on amazon.com and it seems like her sense of humour transfers flawlessly into writing.
Love the line, "What kind of party will you be having? This is determined by a number of factors. What time of year is it? What time of day is it? Is my dealer in town? Do I have a backup dealer available?" :smart: I need to remember that.
