Hehe El Diablo I'm being optimistic about Obama right now. I actually said the other night that I think he has this incredible power to inspire people and can be a great figure for change. But as he acknowledged in his acceptance speech, change will be a hard time coming. And change, well it might just be change for the worse. I predicted that Obama's term as president might be two things: fantastically successful or an abysmal failure. We'll have to wait and see. Right now, he has my support and I'm enjoying actually wanting to listen to my future president speak versus toning out the last 8 years.

He's one of the best public speakers I think I've ever heard. Very dynamic. But, well, you might not be an NFL fan, Emmie (what with being a girl and all ), but I'm a KC Chiefs fan, and I can't help worrying that we've just turned our country over to an even more polished version of Herman Edwards... Fingers crossed that he'll do a great job, tho...

Anyway on to the point. I'm behind Mr. Presidential Elect all the way. I feel happy, inspired, and a witness to a type of unity that I've never seen in my lifetime (I'm only 24). If other nations are cheering and giving us praise such as Britain, France, Kenya (I know his origins), etc...we must have done the right thing. Despite how anyone feels, I hope that we can all move forward from this election to a new era. Changes are sure to come, as well as sacrifice. Darkdahlia, what you wrote was amazing.

Well I'm from Scotland and have been following the election for a while and I'm so happy that Obama won. I think he has a lot to give and I'm happy he's gotten the chance to prove this. It's all been front page happy news over here. So Congrats and lets see what he brings to the country in the next 4 years. Although I did find it funny that everyone was cheering "yes he can". A very nice slogan and straight to the point but does he realise that thi is also the catch phrase of Bob the Builder. Bob the Builder, can he fix it? Bob the Builder...yes he can!

I totally agree....I too am happy that there is peace-loving president looking after the USA and ultimately, the world. Us Brits get a HUGE impact from what happens in America and I have high hopes for some change for the positive over the coming 4 years (or even 8?!?!?) Hahaha Barack the Builder....do they have Bob the Builder in the States??? Does this mean anything to the Americans???

It was a amazing and historic day for everybody! I was very happy Obama won and I'm 100% hopeful he'll do a wonderful job as President. He's a smart guy and if he runs the presidency as well as he ran his campaign, he'll have a successful term or two.

yes we have BTB hahahh
I've been singing the "we did it" song from Dora the Explorer too hahaha
I keep getting the same argument from people though "he's muslim" NO "he's a socialist" NO HE'S NOT, and why is socialism all that bad for a greedy nation like ours...
I just don't get people!! I have so much hope and admiration for both Barack and Michelle. Just imagine the amazing things Michelle is going to do as first lady.
And just to let people know why he's being compared to Kennedy: he's given youth a voice similar to have kennedy did. He's also working towards friendship between nations rather than continuing our failing fight to become an even bigger supernation.
We need to come together. we're one world. thinking as though we are separate and unequal when only ruin us faster.

I'm happy that Obama won and also elated that I was alive to witness such a historic event. I, like many others, hope that he'll do a wonderful job as president. <3

OMG and then maybe, just maybe El Diablo Retardico will fall off the face of the earth, that way we don't have to listen to his stupid sarcasm anymore! LOL, come on, Kara, you can do better than that, can't you? ;D Maybe you could look into having someone write your material for you, the way all the politicians do. But thanks for helping to illustrate my point: I used a little sarcasm to poke fun at the amount of euphoria surrounding this guy, and you got offended and immediately resorted to name-calling and wishing death upon me (for which I forgive you, BTW ). It's a bad thing for people to get this personally invested in a politician-- ANY politician--because then they're much less likely to take an honest, objective look at the job that person is doing while in office, and much more likely to make excuses for them if things don't turn out well, and vote to re-elect them just because they "like" them. If, 4 years from now, this country is in really good shape, and the policies Obama has implemented are a major reason for that, then he'll be deserving of re-election. But if we're as bad off as we are now, or even worse, and the things he's tried haven't helped, then we all need to be willing to seriously consider making a change and giving someone else a chance. And I really wonder if all the people who are jumping up and down with elation this week, or weeping with joy, are going to be prepared to do that.

so who would you have liked to be president?
I keep hearing "i didnt like either" but i mean...when you have an apple and an orange and need some fruit you've got to pick one and get on with it and quit complaining.
I just want everyone to stop with the doubt. HE'S BETTER THAN BUSH AND HIS SECOND COMING, MCCAIN. I mean for crying out loud we could have had a vice president who doesn't realize Africa is a continent....I think everyone should be rejoicing right now. no joke.
the other parties nominees just didnt work hard enough in my opinion. We've had lesser known parties do really great campaigns. everyone just cleared out cause they knew obama was the man.
how many years of the same old politics have we had? more than just 8. longer than a lot of us have been a live. these years have only dug our grave deeper. THIS is the change. This is our chance to evolve. Our economy is shit (i just heard about another major retail chain closing. that makes 3 in the past 2 months that have been around my entire life), other countries hate us, and no one trusts anyone anymore.
Like i said earlier (thank all of you negative ass people for illustrating MY point) we need to purge ourselves of all the cynicism and our strong belief that we cant trust anyone in office. Obama is listening to everyone, not just his party. He is going to respect those who dont like and prove to them that there is a reason why more than half of this nation chose him as their voice.

so who would you have liked to be president? Like I said in my original post, I don't think either one of these guys was necessarily a great choice. But now that he's been elected, I'm going to be open-minded about Obama (just like I would've been open-minded about McCain), and if he does a good job I'll be glad about it and applaud him for it--this country needs him to be good. But if things don't improve, and he can't deliver on his promises, I'm going to strongly consider the other options in 2012. Can you say the same? Are you going to be willing to judge him objectively, and be prepared to admit 4 years from now that maybe he's not the right man for the job if that turns out to be the case?

Obama hasn't even been sworn in yet and it's annoying for most of the Obama supportors that half hearted people or Mccain supporters are already nitpicking the man and implying he'll fail. Obama will probably need two terms because our country is a mess, let's be realistic. I honestly believe if Obama fails it's because We fail because I'm willing to work hard and help the country. If he wants me to volunteer, build homes, pay more taxes or raise money. I am there! The reason why Obama won and why people are so entheastic is because he gave us back the idea that we can help make the U.S. great again and that We could work together to accomplish goals that'll help everyone. No president before him(in my lifetime) has ever inspired the people to do anything other than feel sorry for him(Bush) or making fun of him(still Bush). This is the time where we should be rallying around our new President, optimistic and ready to work hard.

I think you have the wrong idea about a lot of Obama supporters. We are not blind. If he makes a mistake we'll call him on it. Republicans have a reputation for dismissing huge mistakes, not so much with democrats. Dems called Clinton out after he did some shit things in office. But the main point is I choose not to damn him from the start! I'm not sitting thinking "well I'm not going to support him whole heartedly because he may fuck up 4 years from now". Thats stupid. If he does something you dont agree with deal with it when it happens. Don't wait around for him to mess up just so you can go "see!!!! I told you guys!!!". How embarrassing for yall if he DOESNT!! Because I am an adult who knows her opinions I will say that if he does something in office that I don't agree with I will state so. I truly doubt that he will. It's called Faith. And this isn't just directed at you Diablo. I understand what you are saying, but you still sound too negative in such a positive time.

I was just talking to my friend about how awesome it is to be alive now. Witnessing history. Participating in it, really, considering I voted for Obama. Happy times, happy times.
