Hey, I was wondering if there is any kind of podcast relating to Buffy or Joss?
Mainly wondering because I really enjoy podcasts from other fandoms (mainly the Harry Potter fandom) and it feels like it would be great hear a monthly podcast about Whedon related things such as news, and segments reviewing and discussing new issues/episodes of Dollhouse, Season 8 and After the Fall.
I have googled briefly and not been able to find anything frequent or substantial.
Just wondering if you guys think there is audience for anything like this and if you would listen to this?

That's a neat idea. I am not very familiar with podcasts in general...but I wonder if it would be possible for us to do our own? Like a SlayAlive podcast? What criteria do you need to meet to do these? I do not know of any Buffy/Whedon ones off the top of my head. Welcome to the forum, vortigun! (by the way)

I think the bare necessities are microphones, skype, and some kind of recording and editing software. Probably to make it flashy you need good sound cards and other things, but I reckon that is all you would need. I haven't investigated recording and editing software, but I would care to bet you can get some reasonably basic and easy to use ones online. To be honest though I really have no idea. Thanks for the welcome! Been a Buffy fan since Welcome to the Hellmouth aired on BBC1 all those years ago! Also, some of these emoticons are awesome. Fantastic!

I'm sure there are podcasts out there. This fanbase is pretty active online, etc. So there must be,
Anyway I think it would be pretty bitchin if we added podcasts to the many things this forum tries to do...so if there's anyone out there who knows more on this, or would like to help out let us know!
Let's keep this idea alive for a bit.

One day I found myself needing to just hear other peoples opinions about Buffy, Angel and more or less geeky stuff so I did a search and came up with what I think is the best podcast site on the web. They also have forums and stuff and the mods and members are fantastic. They are all very friendly and I found myself getting to know them across the site. They do podcasts for all thinks geek related. Comic book's movies, a few Heroes' cast and best of all nearly a two hour podcast on EVERY single episodes of Buffy and Angel...including the un aired pilot. They have some excellent thoughts and came up with a lot of things I never would have guessed. It costs nothing to join and listen but there is spaces to donate or if you buy something through amazon on their site they get a small percentage. They are trying to get around to starting one up for Buffy season eight and Angel After The Fall but they have had a lot on so haven't had time. There is also a podcast for Smallville to, have a look around the site and at the previous pages and casts- they are worth a listen. Here are the links, I have listened to them all tons of times and they have gotten me through some really boring times at work. Hope you all enjoy Whedon FanLink To The Main Site:www.geekshow.usAngel Investigations Podcast:www.geekshow.us/category/podcasts/angel-investigations/Buffy Podcast (Buffycast):www.geekshow.us/category/podcasts/buffcast/Smallville Podcast (Meteorgeek):www.geekshow.us/category/podcasts/meteorgeek/ :vampirebite: :upset:

Well I would be happy to contribute something, so long as time difference isn't an issue (I live in England most of the time, though currently I am in Australia, but only for another month). Hopefully we can get some other people enthused about this idea, I guess the forum is a little busier when it isn't 5am? ;D
Edit: Whoa major awesome! Thanks Whedonfan!

Well, these are some Buffyverse and Whedon news/discussion podcasts that I frequently listen to: Joss'd Podcast (Whedonverse news and interviews): www.jossd.com/Upside Down And Halfway To Happyland (Buffyverse discussion and fan interviews): upsidedownhappyland.blogspot.com/Undead America Podcast (Buffyverse general and merch discussion): undeadamerica.blogspot.com/The only major problem I have with any of these is that they're not updated regularly, mostly because the hosts of the shows have very busy lives. Oh! And I think the idea of making our own Buffy/Joss podcast is great! I'd be totally willing to help.

Cool! Looks like we're getting the wheels turning on this idea!
I always say, "If it can be done why not do it yourself...but better!"
I should start listening to podcasts so I can get an idea of how they work.

Sounds cool, I'll have a listen to these Buffy ones... I have only really listened before to Mugglecast (which is excellent if you are into Harry Potter) and news related podcasts from the Guardian or the Economist.

Well I'm usually pretty busy with work but I have a microphone and I have editing tools. I've never made or worked on any podcasts so I don't know how they specifically work but if you ever want help with this I'm willing to pitch in.

I listen to the geekshow one that was already reccomended, and i also found this buffycast.libsyn.com/There are only 13 episodes of it, but if you go to the comments on the last episode there are still people begging for it to continue. The guy that does it calls himself Revello, lol, and has some very interesting things to say, i highly reccomend this. He even compares things in Buffy using occam's razor, haha. He doesn't just say "this happened, that happened, the end", he makes you really think about things. I don't know about the production of it, but it seems pretty simple, a guy and a mic. I think it would be pretty awesome if Slayalive did a podcast, since it seems the most "in-the-know" about the Jossverse that i have found. I would definately listen!

I already listen to Mugglecast and I would LOVE to be able to add a SlayAlive podcast to my iPod to help me along those slow traffic commutes. I haven't come across a Whedon podcast I've liked yet, and I'm sure that SlayAlive podcast could fill in that void.
Take note: I'll even volunteer to transcribe each show!

The only issue we have as of now is actually putting it together. I have a microphone....but how would we get more than just one person on it? I mean, it's not like a group of us can get together in a recording studio hehe.
I think this is a brilliant idea, we have a lot of smart people here who can contribute too.

Hmm... I think the easiest way to record multiple people for a podcast would be to use a voice chat program like Skype. These enable you to talk freely with various people and record the conversations. ^^

I know that Mugglecast uses Skype to talk to each other in order to record the show. You could also use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). I've heard about it, but I'm not familiar with it so I'm just throwing it out there. I guess the only other thing you would need is an audio editor. I've found this step-by-step How To guide: www.sweetwater.com/feature/podcasting/howto.php

Lookee what I found on Mugglecast's FAQ page! How do I create my own podcast? This is the question that we receive the most. At the same time though, it is also the most complex. Podcasts can be created in a number of different ways, but we think the steps we've outlined below will provide the best results. The first thing to plan out is the show's format. What segments will be in each show? Who will host each segment? What will the theme of your podcast be? How can you appeal to listeners? Answering these questions and applying the answers to your final show will help it in the long run. Next, you'll need to decide who will be on the show. We recommend 3-5 people, because any less might make things boring and any more will be confusing for the listeners. It's important to carefully decide your co-hosts. Personalities are everything, and the more diverse you are with your choices, the better. If your co-hosts will be at their own computers, the solution to talking with one another in real-time is Skype. It's free internet telephony that can let you talk with up to five people at once in a conference. It's not a podcast without your audio, so your next step is to purchase a microphone. If you're looking for an inexpensive mic to do exactly what you need, we recommend the Logitech USB Desktop Microphone. It costs only $30 and works great for one or more people sitting around it. For those who are a little more serious about podcasting, we give two thumbs-up to the Plantronics DSP-500. Andrew, Ben, and Kevin each use them. The recording quality is great, the stereo headset is crisp, and the headset is comfortable to wear. They run for $90 and plug into your computer via the USB port. Next you'll need to record what your mic hears. The perfect solution for this is Audacity. It's free and easy to record with. Also download the LAME MP3 encoder so you can turn your show into an MP3 file at the end. Everything is download and purchased, so it's time to get started. If everyone who is recording is in one room, then just hit record in Audacity and do your show! If you have co-hosts who are in different homes, then you'll need to start-up Skype. Once everyone is in a conference room, have the entire group press record in Audacity *at the same time* and then talk to your hearts' content. With that, press stop. You've finished recording! Now use Audacity to edit the show. We don't want to go through the details of editing, but here's a good tutorial from Macworld. Now go to File-Export to MP3. Save it to a easy to access spot on your computer and you're done! As for putting it online, you'll need a web server (to host your podcasts and website) and domain name (such as http://www.mugglenet.com). We recommend our sponsor, GoDaddy.com (save 10% off at that link). Prices are cheap and and will let plenty of people download your shows. Forget that How To guide! Mugglecast's answer is much better and more specific. :smart:

There is also Strangely Literal (found at http://www.strangelyliteral.com) which podcasts fanfic stories centered around the Jossverse fandoms: Firefly, Buffy and Angel (primarily)
