Okay so this past Sunday I read the first book in the smash hit twilight series. At first I wasn't really all that sure I'd like it. I'd heard the main plot of it and wasn't insanely impressed. A vampire falling in love with a human and that whole deal is kinda played out. So I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do. Since I do, I think it's only right I make a thread about twilight ( a non hater thread ) Please refrain from coming in and just posting that " twilight sux 4EVA HAHA", or something immature like that. It's fine if you don't like it but try and explain why you feel the way you do and if you can't come up with anything then just don't post. Thanks. Have fun! *Edit: Make sure to use spoiler tags for New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn discussions.

Count me in among those who love the Twilight series. I literally just finished the first book, (only took me 3 days to get through the whole thing b/c I absolutely could not put it down) and now I am actually going to see the movie in a few minutes. I had heard about the Twilight series well before the movie came out. Even though it sounded like an interesting premise, (very reminiscent of Buffy and Angel, IMO) I was reluctant to check them out. Finally, when I heard news of the movie I decided to go down to my local bookstore and purchase the first book. To my surprise, I found that I loved the book and within the first few pages I had already been sucked in. I have now been telling everyone I know to who loves Buffy/vampire mythology to check out this book series. I find that this book series is doing a great job of filling the void that the lack of new Buffy novels has left in my life. I can't wait to read the other 3 books and find out what happens next! I tried to fight against the Twilight craze b/c I did not want to be like masses, but now I find that I am addicted like many others. I immediately fell in love with the doomed and tormented star-crossed lovers Edward and Bella (gee, sound like another couple we know?) and now I found myself hopelessly rooting for their relationship. Although, if history has taught me anything it's that their romance probably won't end happily ever after. I hope that this movie is a success so that they will make feature films out of the other 3 books as well. Also, does anyone know if there will be more books published? Please, no spoilers b/c I haven't read the other books yet. I look forward to discussing my new love and obsession with others who love it too.

I read the first three in a week, and the last one in two days when it came out! The movie was great too! It was very similar to the book. I don't understand why some people hate it!

buffyfan21: I don't think there are more books in the series but Stephenie Meyer wrote a couple chapters of something called "Midnight Sun" Which is a POV from Edward of his encounter with Bella.

Yay, she was working on Midnight Sun(Twilight in Edward's point of view), but she only got about half way through when someone posted the first 12 chapters on the internet. The chapters can be found on Step's web site under the Midnight Sun section. She stated the she may not continue with Midnight Sun until everyone forgets about it, then she would start it again. But she said that might be two years. Also, Steph said that if she ever wrote in that Twilight universe again, she would write in the view of Leah Clearwater, or (SPOILER) Renesmee Cullen.

^^ Meh that would be pushing it to far if she started writing in Leah's point of View or Ness's I hope she just stops with the Midnight sun book, because the first chapter was really well written and I was hoping for the book to come out SOON. but guess not now... but she really should finish Mignigh Sun SOon

I hope the guy/chick who did it gets sued. What a shitty thing to do to the author. And the fans in this case as well, since the writing stopped.
Btw, VampSlayer, love your icon.

Omg! This is so stupid! I found this just now, I thought you guys should see it too. "In the latest news it says that the book will be published in 2015 when Stephenie Meyer has overcome her emotional trama due to the Midnight Sun leak."

Well that's kind of annoying. Why does she need to get over her trauma? So what? A couple chapters got leaked. She must be rollin' in money right about now. It seems like 12 chapters of a book that doesn't even add to the storyline would bother her. I've read a little of "Midnight Sun" and I liked it but I don't see what the big deal about it getting leaked is..

So I finally read the book the other day *and* saw the movie. Gotta say, I found the book better (as is often the case for me). I just found the delivery of some of the lines in the movie to be gag-worthy, where as in the book they felt appropriately filled with emotion.
After reading the book, I can still appreciate some of the other people's criticism regarding Bella's character (her desire to die to become a vampire and her almost co-dependence on Edward) as well as the repeated descriptions of Edward's beauty (glorious, how you dazzle me you glorious, glorious vampire) being a bit annoying.
All in all, I enjoyed the book and I'm currently reading the sequel, A New Moon. It's a fun series, very much a popular fiction work written for young adults. That's it's niche.
So how about some questions for you Twilight fans?
Do you think Bella is right to want to become a vampire?
Do you think the novel translated well to film? Which scenes worked better on film or better in the book?

I think the movie was pretty close to the book, and I really liked it. I was upset that Edward's skin didn't look cooler(was better in book.)

Do you think Bella is right to want to become a vampire? Personally I think she's right. If I were in her position and as in love with Edward as she appears to be, I'd do it too.

I think so. The tone of the movie matched the story really well. The characters were all casted really well (imo)
The baseball scene is one in particular that really REALLY looked good on screen. It was just really done well and fun to watch. I think the biology scene when Edward first saw her was a lot funnier than it had been in the book. Just seeing him cover his nose and act all tense made me laugh. When in the book it seemed alot more natural...

I have a question. Do you think Bella would have been as in love with Edward if he was ugly? Or not so good smelly? Also, if vampires can't blush, then how can Edward get an erection?

First off Ty, make sure to spoiler tag if you are saying something that is in future books. like this : [ spoiler ] TEXT HERE [ / spoiler ]. And to answer your question about if bella would love Edward if he were ugly. I really can't answer that. I personally don't think Bella is a conceited person and looks aren't the only thing that mattter to her. Though I think Meyer makes comments about Edwards beauty a tad too much imo. Thankfully Edward is wonderfully sexy and whether she would've loved him or not if that weren't the case is irrelevant.

Shouldn't this thread be in Giles' library? And the twilight-hater-thread?
And I saw the swedish translated book today, and it said that it had one extra chapter, with Edward's point of view.
Does the ordinary English book have that? Is that one of the chapters that were put online without permission?

Giles' Library is strictly for Buffyverse-related publications. Twilight, the novel, discussions definitely don't belong there.
