I just don't see Riley being evil. I know some of the other military guys have Twilight's mark, but would Riley have it for REAL??? Could he be undercover? Also Riley HAS been into some dark things in the past, like him with that whole vampire biting thing(can't really remember, am watching old epis to have a refreshed memory xD). What do you guys think? And if he really is the bad guy now, can you think of another character that could have been placed in this spot? ~VS~ :buffyslay:

Not that I am up to this part yet, but I don't see him as that 'dark', so I really hope he is a double agent...

For now I am thinking a double agent. I just cannot picture him being so dark as to want to kill Buffy, as that is Twilight's ultimate endeavor...her ending.
I also am not sure if he has enough wits about him to pull a stunt like that off.

Riley evil?! lol. Would never happen...I don't think
I do think he is a double agent , although I don't think Buffy will see it this way when she finds out, or something like that.

I can see ways of making Riley turn dark, but it's an extreme change from the guy we knew. He idolized Buffy. I wanna see how this plays out.

My money's on mind-control, but we have seen that when he doesn't get his way, he can "cheat" with vamps and as we saw with Spike, he doesn't min dinflicting pain. But I don't think he's a mean person deep inside, but if something happened, something dramatic, he could turn mean. Maybe Twilight could talk him into believing that ending magic is the right thing, but he was there when Amy & Warren discussed why more slayers weren't dead and the Riley we knew wouldn't do that. And as we saw in Season 4, he's not the kind of guy who could talk himself into denial, so he can't possibly justify the attack on the castle, can he? Mind-control people. Or maybe it wasn't Riley. Maybe just a lookalike. It's a comic, maybe the likeness is accidental? Okay, probably not. So, shall we hope for mind-control? EDIT- I just wrote a blog post about this, in case you want a more detailed argument for the mind-control thing. I wouldn't be surprised if you have all discussed this over and over, but still. thebuffyverseaddict.blogspot.com/2008/12/riley-betrayer-or-puppet.html

I'm going with hunter's theory of ol' that I loved so much. Buffy's spell turned his wife into a slayer, and he suffered the same neglect with his newly-purpose-filled wife that he felt with Buffy. That spell would turn him against magic and Buffy simultaneously.

when you say double agent do you mean for twilight against the military or against the military and for twilight?

Because man, that'd be overreacting.

Quite a lot.
He manipulated Gigi and her warlock to be killed. He caused the death of his followers, via the monsters, in #1. He, presumably, ordered the death of Ethan Rayne--unless he IS Rayne. He ordered the missile strike on the Scotland base, which killed, what was it, 19? I forget exactly. But he also ruined some nice architecture, both the castle and the church he tossed at Buffy.
He's a bad mo'fo.

I also am not sure if he has enough wits about him to pull a stunt like that off. Um...back up. When has Twilight ever even implied he wants to kill Buffy? He says he wants to bring an end to magic/her army/etc. Not her. Hell, when questioned about killing her he even comments "that's been done, to little effect". His ultimate goal here isn't offing Buffy. I think that's been made crystal clear. Defeat and death aren't the same things.

Hey guys! It's been a while since I've posted (school work, end of the semester, finals, etc. -- on a side note, I'm happy to say that I've aced all of my classes and have a 4.0 for the semester (which is a 3.988ish total because I got ONE little B last year! meh... I'm not bitter.))
Anyway, I voted for the double agent deal, but the more I think about it, I don't think that's the case. Riley has never been very positive toward magic, demons, slayers, etc. So wouldn't Twilight's ultimate goal -- the end of magic -- really appeal to him. Especially if something happened to his wife, like she was killed by a rogue slayer, or a demon, or a spell gone bad. While I think that he still cares for Buffy, he's weighing the pros and cons of the situation. Buffy's life for the end of magic. I dunno. It seems like he may actually be in Twilight's camp for real.

He's a bad mo'fo. Ah I forgot about the slayers. I dunno though. Maybe Riley isn't aware as to the the extent of the damage being done. Sadly I peg him as more likely to be fooled than a double agent. Also, if he was truely still pulling for the side of good, and was in the presence of such bastards, he'd surely just shoot them in the face or whatever.

Well, first, everyone... Riley already is a double agent. That was revealed in #19. He's pretending to be on Buffy's side, but is actually working with Twilight. That's double.
The debate is whether or not he's a triple agent.
Henz, as far as him being oblivious to the extent of the damage Twilight is doing... I'm skeptical. He walked in on Twilight chilling with Skinless Warren and Amy, post-bomb. He definitely knows what's up. For me, he's either totally down with Twilight, or--if he's a triple agent--he's accepting the deaths as something for the greater good, and not protesting them so he won't out himself.
I think he's totally down with Twilight, though.
