Just a question that was on my mind for a long time. When one of the now-many thousands of slayers have died (like Renee, Aiko, Amanda etc.) would new normal girls take their place? Like how it was with Buffy, Kendra and Faith?
Also, Gunn's slayers in ATF, he had used them in battle and had killed them many times. The girls were brought back to life again. Would that activate new girls to be Slayers?
This question could also tell us why Fray is the only slayer in the future. Because when Urkonn tells Fray about the whole dimension thing. He says:
"A slayer, possibly with some mystical allies."
Mystical allies could mean the entire slayer army (and of course Willow, Giles, Xander, Faith, etc.) And all of them was banished from the world. Buffy could easily have died during the whole dimension thing and so could other slayers. but assuming there were no girls in the dimension they were at, no girl had possessed the power.
The power of the slayer is basically a demon, so when the demons came back. The power of the slayer now possessed Melaka Fray.
It's just something that came up in my mind. What do you think?
PS: I have not read TOYL yet so there might be some flaws.

To answer part of your question, i remember the spell from Chosen being similar to: "Every girl who could be a slayer, WILL be a slayer"
So no, if a slayer dies another does not take her place, as any girl who could be a slayer, will be one anyway.

I figure that until new potentials are born, and perhaps reach a suitable age to control slayerpowers, we won't have new slayers.
Unless the slayer-power-choose-stuff finds new ways...

it could be a yearly thing because it (potintialhood) might not hit in untill after puberty sets in so new ones are probly coming in all the time

what confuses me is that is there any more potentials? or are like 2 year olds gonna be super strong and have prophetic dreams?

what confuses me is that is there any more potentials? or are like 2 year olds gonna be super strong and have prophetic dreams? Like someone said above, potentials will most likely be called at a specific point in their life. Like puberty, or womanhood. Remember the Slayer is a symbol of womanhood and feminine power. This is going into that Fray post-hoc prophesy. I don't think the slayer army will dwindle in number because of the spell directly. Rather, that more potentials will be called when their time comes. However, whether the slayer army is even around for this apocalyptic battle, it remains unclear.

I honestly think that Willow doing the spell screwed the whole chosing system. Either because it changed the whole magical rules surrounding the process or because the slayer essence is now too diluted or simply because of practical problems, like the only potentials left hadn't been already born when the first new slayers died, so the last called slayer dies when there are no potentials, actually fulfilling the First's goal.
This needs Joss's explanation and season 8 to finish. We'll have to wait to know for sure!

See, I'm not sure if anymore Potentials ARE going to be called. Let me explain: The Slayer line has two variables, one of them independent and the other dependent. The independent variable is the current Slayer, the dependent would be the next Slayer in line (aka a Potential). For a Potential to be called, the Slayer must die. BUT, if all the Potentials are already called, that eliminates the need for Potentials. Imagine Willow's spell as one big dead Slayer, calling all of these girls all around the world. So, if the Slayer line is a continuum, depending on Slayers and Potentials, Willow's spell would have been a blocker to said continuum, pretty much ending the Slayer line's habit of going on and on and on. And yep, I realize that my theory doesn't explain how Mel comes along, so I have ANOTHER theory where I think that Faith could be the only Slayer ATM with the ability to pass on her power naturally, because that's how she recieved her power -- naturally. All the other Slayers (excluding Buffy) recieved their powers via magick and not through the natural Slayer tradition. I'm probably way wrong, but I just figured I'd share.

I think that slayers are like mutants lol they activate during puberty or at moments of high stress... Yea, this is what I think, too. I think that there are still potential Slayers, but they don't become actual slayers until a certain age (like whatsherface in "No Future For You" ) because I can't fathom baby slayers lol. I think it doesn't have anything to do with whether a current slayer dies. What I'm curious about is what would happen if all the current slayers and potentials (assuming there are some still,) are killed? End of slayers forever? I don't think any more slayers would be called/potentials be created until the next generation, if at all. I guess this is what the government is trying to do. I would include Twilight, too, but I think he has a super secret agenda he's not letting anyone know about and is just using the government to advance a certain part of that secret plan. I'm not so sure Twilight is a bad guy... ...I just felt like adding some smilies, haha.
