It's not really a convention as such, but it brings fans together. Chicago Slayathon, August 4, 2007, Dave and Buster's, 1030 N. Clark, Chicago, starts at 11.00 a. m. Since 2004, fans in the Chicago area have got together to watch BtVS and AtS episodes, hang out together, have a charity auction, play Buffyverse trivia, etc. The benefitting charity for the event is Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois, and over the years the event has raised $12,000 - 15,000 for the foundation.

I have taken the train MANY times from Chicago to St. Louis. Its not too expensive and I believe it might get you here right around noonish. But that was the schedule like five years ago... Then it would be a short walk to the red line at state street which you would take to Clark and Division...and then a brief walk to Dave and Busters. Its pretty doable but you would need to find a place to crash overnight most likely. Which you could probably ask on the slayathon yahoo group for a couch to borrow. SLayathon is very very fun. I have been for three years now.

I've been talking to my aunt about coming up to Chicago for SLayathon. We're going for the Chicago Meetup's reunion July 13th, but we may not be able to stay up to late. I have to be awake for the ANGEL contest the next day.

Why don't we all post up-to-date photos here so that we'll recognize eachother while throwing pennies into little coffins? Can't wait to meet everyone! Especially Shiai and Aly. SlayerLit and UndeadAmerica ROCK!!! And I'm gonna be a little nervous if I am picked for the trivia game and Allan is too. He won one fo the Buffy Trivia Contests at SaveAngel.

I know the pics are bad! I have no clue why! It ticks me off cause its a pretty good camera. Im gonna take some test pics later. And Aly and I passed out all 30 ads. ORIGINALLY POSTED AT BUFFY-ANGEL-AUTHORS Slay-A-Thon was great! I ended up leaving without any money, but it was great! Oh, and I used $40 of my aunt's and she was so tired when she told me I could that she didnt remember it later, but it was great!
I met Shiai (SlayerLit) and he ended up giving me a colored bracelet I needed to participate in the Buffy/Angel trivia. Which, and this is very embarassing coming from me, I lost in round 2 because I forgot the title of the 100th episode of Angel. I knew what it was about, I knew that Cordy came back, sort of, and I knew that she said the title at the end of the episode, and I knew that I had taken questions over a few weeks before for the 50 Question ANGEL Contest, and yet I was dumbfounded. Probably out of fear. I get that way. I'm nervous around strangers. You should have seen me shaking on the way to Chicago. We talked a little about SlayerLit and the end of the book and of course Buffy. And how Riley is boring! Ha, 2 against any posters here who like Riley a lot! You have the creaters of two Yahoo Groups about tie-in novels in the Whedon-verse against you!
I also met Alyrenee who had brought a TON of Buffy CCG stuff for me. I looked at all of the cards and read most of the rulebook on the way home. And I want to let all readers here know that there will be some great updates soon, and Aly will need to be thanked for the greatest one of them.
Something that shocked me was that, although I've seen these episodes too many times to count, watching Grave with a roomful of people and hearing Anya say "he doesn't have that much time" or whtevr made me sad. It was like a cold wave went over me, or some sad bit of information finally hit me. IDK whats wrong with me.
I have a little cut, which may actually be a scar already, on my pointer finger to remind me of the event. A 13-yr old named Scott and I were fighting with those little swords that come with some alcoholic drinks. And I went in for the stab and was hit instead. He ended up winning two BuffyBot figures, so he gave me one! Thnx Scott, whever yu are in Indiana.
Matt (JusticeDemon at BtvsFigsForum.com) who was the host, or so i would call it, made an announcement about the Buffy LiVE Trivia Contest next week, thanks Matt, if you ever join this group and happen to come across this post. A few people came up to me later and had me write the details down for them. And I almost forgot! Thanks Shiai, for suggesting I ask them to say something about the contests.
I left last night with a Season Five Angel figure for participating in Buffy Pyramids, a Las Vegas Lorne figure for participating in the Buffy/Angel trivia game, CHOSEN Buffy, Faith, Xander, and Giles figures that I bid on (I would have had White Witch Willow too, but I didnt have enough to bid on the Chosen set until Eva, Scott's mother, made a deal with me to pay almost half of the bid if she could just get the white witch willow), and the BuffyBot I already mentioned.
I also left with pictures. A few are below. Most of the pictures came out bad. I'm not sure why. There were TONS of items auctioned off. Too many too remember, but tons! Figures, customs, posters, autographed figures, an autographed script, tons of stuff. Go ahead and ask if they had a certain thing and I'll try to remember. Aly scared the cr*p out of me! I was sitting by my lonesome, waiting for my aunt to get our drinks, and I had just gotten there 5 minutes before when this woman, who looks astonishingly different from her default photo on the web, comes up to me and says, " Are you Tim? Is your name Tim?" I didnt see her behind me or anything. I was like, "Yea." She had brought me cards, wait, a LOT of cards, and a rulebook for the BtVSccg, which I had asked for after listening to Undead America Episode 20. So thanks for those Aly! I read most of the rulebook when we first left Chicago this morning, and read all of the card descriptions while waiting for food in Steak N Shake. Now I just need to find someone in Indianapolis to play with me... with the cards... the card game... not me.

I want to add that the actual room was much bigger than portrayed in the only pictures that came out okay.

Nice pics and coverage! Looks like it was pretty fun! Why does it look like people brought pillows and blankets though??

People could bring blankets and pillows and stuff because there was a lot of floor room for those who wanted to get comfy and not get killer back pain from the chairs. The room was big, but there weren;t tables and chairs everywhere.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun I definitely need to go next year, I really wanted to go this year but I was underage (I'm 20, but you need to be 21 in order to come without a chaperone).

Everyone and Tim, Well, great write up BTW, and your pics with Shiai and Aly are pretty cool, too, and the side shot of Lisa Strauss taking a swig from her water is OK. Like your pic of the book layout during auction. Dave&Busters definitely has their own unique and singular policy about under 21 admittance going on, because there's an occassion about one year ago when I was asked to show ID.
