I am going to see about getting more info about the litigations FOX has (I hope that is the right word) to see if there are any ways around it. I doubt there is, but I'm hoping maybe if we get less than a certain number of people at the event then we can still play it. I'm not sure if it's the same with TV, but it's probably similar, but I know some stuff about movie rights and how they work. Basically, if you want to show a movie to a large crowd, if there's over a certain amount (the amount is low, like 10), you have to buy the rights to show the film. Depending on who you go through, the rights can cost from $200-$800 for one showing of the film. If you charge admission, the price goes up, depending on your price of admission. If you want to show the film multiple times, you have to pay for a multiple viewing liscense (or you could just show it numerous times, because hey, how're they gonna know? But this is FOX we're talking about so...) which allows you to show the movie several times. Same thing here as above with admission. I'd expect that since you have to go through Fox, it might be difficult to get them to allow you to show Buffy eps at the Con without purchasing rights to them. I mean, they cut off Slayathon, which is a charity event for Chrissakes, so they're definitely not gonna give them to us for free. The best thing you can hope for (and possibly the cheapest) would be to get them to allow you to buy the rights to show it, and then see if they'll offer them on a per-episode basis. That way, you can figure out ahead of time exactly how many episodes you want to show, and which ones, and then purchase the rights to show ONLY those episodes. They may or may not allow the per-episode basis thingy to happen, but it's worth a shot. And, I'm guessing, it would probably be severely less then purchasing rights to the entire series, and then only showing 20 out of 150 episodes. **Side note: The rate can also change if you purchase the rights to something for several days. Its kind of like the multiple viewings stuff I talked about, but different. (Rights are very messy).

I'd LOVE to go, if I am able to find a way there! Like, Whedon Fan, I don't really have many friends that are big Buffy fans. Only person I know who really watches it started watching it last year, after I got him interested in it actually. Been trying like crazy to get my fiancee into it to, so far he's been watching some of Angel. But he did watch "Hush" with me and seems interested in it. (The Gentlemen creeped him out big time, lol!)
I live in Ohio myself and I'm going to be 23 end of this month, so best place for me would be Chicago. But I'd definitely have to find a way to get there, so idk. I'll see what I can do. I am in college currently, and taking summer classes, but, for this, I would be willing to skip summer classes next summer, if I am able to go.

I am definitely IN for this convention. I never went to any when the show was on the air and I'm kicking myself for it now. I will be able to bring at least 4 friends with me too... hopefully it'll be in Chicago!
Another idea for the convention would be to have a dealer room for all Buffy collectors to sell/buy their merchandise. I used to be in contact with Emma Caulfield (I ran "Emma Caulfield Online"), but I have not had any contact in a long while. Maybe if this convention happens I could try to get in contact with her again. *fingers crossed*

The convention will now definitly be in Chicago!!!
Nathan, that's so cool! And if you could get in contact with her that'd be outstanding! I know she has an official Myspace, but I can't imagine going through all those messages, so I doubt she would. If you have a better means of contacting her, PLEASE use it. LOL.

Name: Kim Location: California Attendee Awesome! EDIT Okay, until we work on getting a way to donate online (can anyone set us up a PayPal thing somehow? It's confusing me) any item donations for prizes or cash/check donations can be sent to: SlayAlive Convention8353 Centenary Drive Camby, IN 46113 I am not expecting to receive cash or check donations through the mail, but if someone has enough trust in the postal service and me checks should be made out to Christina M. Cox.

Sorry about coming so VERY, VERY, VERY LATE into this conversation. BUT, in 2001 or 2002, Kelly Creamer one of the Slayathon organizers planned a Chicago Bronze Posting party at a Chicago hotel; therefore, she most likely has lots of hints and ideas about how to deal with Chicago hotel adminstrators, planners, staff and executives.
Another point when planning things for the summer in Chicago, watch the calendar because weekends here are very full with lots of events and such. Recent example, about one month ago was the Chicago WizardWorld show, and the same weekend was one the area's major horror conventions and shows, and the two shows were about one block from each other. Another example, is Chicago Lollapalooza which would divert most folks's attentions.
Allan Rosewarne: attending.
post script to the previous message: To the Ontario Canada fan who said they'd bring a carload of Canadian fans a Slayalive convention. Well, in 2003 I drove from where I live in a Chicago suburb to a NY BtVS convention and met with alot of Canadian BtVS fans and they were all very cool folks.
