Oddly enough, I've never actually sat down and watched "Charmed", but I've heard good things about it. I see TONS of people relating "Buffy" to "Charmed" though or clumping them both together in general discussions. I guess my main question is, for a diehard Buffy fan, is "Charmed" something that I might like? And are there many relations to it and BTVS?

No, I don't see any relations between Charmed and BtVS at all. I've seen the show alot before, and I really like it; though it's heavy focus on mythology kinda makes me go "ehhhh", it's actually a good show.

It makes you go "ehhhh"? Lol. I'm not sure why, but that made me giggle.
Buffy focuses a lot on mythology too, but it's always extremely believable. Especially if it's coming out of Gile's mouth. ;-) I've heard that "Charmed" wasn't as focussed on discussing the backgrounds of certain mythology and magic, and I think that might get on my nerves.

Nope. There are too many good shows out there to give "Charmed" the time of day.

The most I can say about Charmed is that it wasn't that bad. I personally really enjoyed the first couple seasons, however the show did, for me anyway, go down hill in the thrid season and then Shannen Doherty's departure was the last nail. The later seasons are watchable, but for me they are no where near as great as the earlier stuff.

though Charmed is in fact no Buffy the Vampire Slayer, i call it "buffy-lite" it's good, but the writing is nowhere as good as buffy, but the characters and storylines are still good.

Charmed isn't at the level of quality Buffy's at. I guess the best way to explain Charmed is, it doesn't seem very organised. The mythology gets changed through the seasons and the continuity is very bad. I do enjoy Charmed as something to watch casually, if you can look past the immense stuff-ups, it's an alright show. But it's no Buffy.

Charmed just copied Buffy most of the time.

Charmed just copied Buffy most of the time. buffy did the same to charmed... not to trash JW and the writers, but there is absolutely no originality in anything ever anymore... even more so with Genre shows like Charmed and Buffy. although the vampire episode of Charmed was VASTLY different that vampire based episodes in Buffy i.e. bats, just teeth (no vamped face), queen, hive, kill queen, all who have been turned will die as well. what i don't really understand, is if We are ALL DIE HARD buffy fans, charmed is basically the same show, but just with less complex story lines, why more people on SlayAlive don't have good things to say about Charmed... There's what, a couple hundred (maybe thousands) of people on slayalive and a very small fraction like charmed which honestly baffles me. an example of "originality"* witches had whitelighters to watch over them in charmed: slayers had watchers (to my knowlege) there can only be one set of charmed ones active at one time: there can (traditionally) only be one Slayer * " means airquotes and now, legit originalities: charmed had the Book of shadows, as where buffy just had lots and lots of books. The Avatars are some of the most creative beings i've ever seen on a show. Buffy always had to use weapons (i.e. holy water, stake, sword, kick-ass scythe) as where the charmed ones had legit powers (Prue - Telekinesis, astral projection, Piper - Temporal Status (freezing time), and Molecular combustion (blowing sh*t up), Phoebe - Premonitions, Levitation, empathy) I don't count Paige as a person The demons on buffy didn't have powers generally, due to financial restraints, but all demons on charmed had some form of power. this is the first time i've ever admitted it, but Charmed is the reason i started watching Buffy... i feel ashamed *puts head down in dissapointment*

To say Buffy did the same to Charmed would be to assume that Joss Whedon watched Charmed. Think we can all safely say that Joss steered waayyy clear of Charmed.
