Just wanted to throw this out there and hear other peoples opinions...
In the buffyverse, do vampires get stronger with age, as in physically stronger, or are they just more experienced (better fighting skills, etc)?
i've always believed that they got stronger with age, though i can't think of any evidence from the show that backs that up. the only circumstance i can think of where a vampire's strength is affected has to do with the blood they intake like when angel drank buffy's blood or hamilton's.

When watching Faith, Hope, and Trick we witness the size of the stake being an important factor in order to kill Kakistos. I feel it could be a factor with regard to Kakistos strength as well as his age. Ultimately, I feel a Vampires strength is based on the effort put into improving it. If a Vampire hones their skills, they can do incredible things. But a lazy Vamp as old as Angel may not have the abilities he has. I've often been curious about the Angel episode Somnambulist. In it, we see Penn move at great speeds. It mirrors the effects shown in Queen of the Damned. Angel moves very fast, but we do not see him move like Penn. After Somnambulist, I always assumed Angel moved similar to his style. I think a Vampire's stregnth all depends on the Vampire and what they put into enhancing their abilities. Regardless of his or her age.

It makes me ROFL when Angel is locked in Willies back room in a cage bu Kendra and he is trying to get out and all there is, is a small little lock... he could have broken it makes me laugh.
Also when Angel in Passions is chasing Jenny she tires to open the door thats locked when she dose after pulling alto and it closes Angel dose the same and it takes him a few pulls before its open... doesn't really show he was strong there.

I don't think that is really true about age, but over time they would be able to work on their skills. But i do think their strength depends on the vamp that sires them........

I think it's probably the same with people, as in some are stronger than others. Also, with age they learn how to hone and improve their skills, so age is a factor in it all.

I think that with a long period of time, a vampires power does evolve in some way. Look at the Master, he wasnt physically strong but he could hypnotize, Kakistos became crazy strong, even Angel has gotten stronger since the first time we saw him.

There are many little inconsistencies in the show as far as strength goes. But I think vampires in general have moderate strength. Trained humans like Robin Wood, Giles, Gunn, Cordelia and Riley can kill them...so they cannot possibly be -that- strong.
I also think it depends on the vampire them self. Spike is clearly stronger than the common vampire. Maybe it does have to do with age!

i always thought that the reason trained people like riley, gunn, robin and giles were able to fight vamps was because they were relatively newly risen. but even then they had serious combat training, as well as being pretty tall, strong guys.
Now I'm all for girls kicking ass (its huge part of why i love BUFFY so much), but it seemed kinda of strange to me how quickly cordy went from unskilled but willing backup (i mean BAIT) on BUFFY and the early seasons of ANGEL to such a badass, skilled fighter by AtS season 4. yeah angel was showing her some moves, but come on it took him over a century to master them. how did she progress so quickly? cordy's development felt rushed and a bit unbelievable, which i partly attribute to the manipulation by the PTB/Jasmine.
somehow this turned into a rant about cordy's evolution as a character, but i just feel she strayed so far from her greatest strengths. one of my favorite scenes is when she stands up for herself in ANGEL's Rm w/a Vu:
“I’m not a sniveling whiny little Cry-Buffy. I’m the nastiest girl in Sunnydale history. - I take crap from no one...get ready to haul your wrinkly translucent ass out of this place, because lady, the bitch is back.”
cordy's a bitch with heart and that's why ya gotta love her. "You're Welcome" helped alot in redeeming her to me, but AtS seasons 3 and 4 changed her so much and not necessarily for the better.
