Angel final totally. I loved the whole seeing into the character's perfect day scenes, and the way they ended it without showing the full fight was an inspired idea. But chosen was full of plot holes (the potentials start fighting before they get their powers? the ubervamps are all suddenly so much weaker), the white witch willow was just cheesy, and plus they killed off anya! The only really good bit about chosen was the town imploding.

Well, the plan wasn't for the Potentials to start fighting before they got their powers. They thought Willow would be able to work her mojo before the fight started, but it didn't work out that way. They got their powers pretty soon after it started though. I think Chosen is amazing. I've watched it about 10 times, maybe more, and I think it's one of the best season finales ever.
The Angel finale, Not Fade Away, is also one of the best finales ever, ever. I was so emotional watching the ep. I cried when Wesley died. I rallied when Illyria punched through Cyrus' head. The whole ep is awesome, and I agree that ending it without showing the big, big fight was cool. Now we'll know how it ends, though, in the comic. I can't wait.

I hated the Angel finale. Why?

I like them both, but looking back now I do not like the way Angel ended. As a show. Many people don't know that there will be comics, and when I re-watch Not Fade Away...it just seems incomplete.
I think we should have seen them "going out" fighting. We should have seen some of the fight...with no sound effects, just maybe a voice over monologue from Angel.
I much prefer the "finished" tone from Buffy's ending. It had closure, even if it was small.

I honestly prefer Chosen, it fits almost perfectly with the rest of the series in a way that I have never seen before in a finale, and it set up season 8 really well. I still loved Not Fade Away, though. I'm always up for seeing a guy get punched so hard that his head explodes.

I would have to pick Chosen. I think it really completed the journey of all the core characters at that time. I loved the scene with Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles at the school. I pretty much cry throughout the entire episode every time I watch it. But a good type of crying. Its epic.
Of course I loved the Angel finale as well. But it was very different. It had a much more somber tone to it. Cue the crying as well for me.
They are both truly great and will always be the best series finales in my mind.
I'm just waiting a few more seasons to see what the people over at Lost come up with for theirs!

Angel finale was better. As an episode it was structured and executed better. The Buffy finale had a pretty terrible flow to it, and lacked a satisfactory face-off. The Angel finale had great "bosses", was well paced, and screen time was well divided. Both were spot on in terms of tone. Deaths were necessary and well chosen in both too.

I hated the Angel finale. Why? Thinking back on the ENTIRE ep, I guess I didn't hate the ep, I actually loved it, but I absolutly HATED how it ended. I honestly prefer Chosen, it fits almost perfectly with the rest of the series in a way that I have never seen before in a finale, and it set up season 8 really well. I still loved Not Fade Away, though. I'm always up for seeing a guy get punched so hard that his head explodes. You're right about Chosen. In ANGEL, they made it perfectly clear the fight was bigger than any other fight, but the other seasons didnt end with a fight like that. In BtVS Season One, buffy fights the master in the finale and its supposed to be her hardest battle yet. She dies, so it kind of was. In Season Two, killing Angelus was supposed to be her hardest mission yet. And it was. We just build up to what's "hardest" every year. In Season Three, she has to have an entire army of high school graduate-soon-to-bes help her because its such a big objective. In Season Four (btw, I consider Primeval to be the actual season finale. Restless was just out of place as a season finale.) The fight with Adam was supposed to be the hardest thing yet. You got my point a couple seasons ago. But seriously... S5=Glory S6=DarkWillow S7=Ubervamps and Bringers The Series finale added to the season finale pattern, instead of stepping out of it. Thats a great element of it.

I honestly preferred "Chosen" to "Not Fade Away". I loved every minute of "Chosen" whereas I loved "Not Fade Away", but wasn't too keen on the last few moments. I like the biggest battle and we're probably gonna die bit, but I would have liked to see what happened. I know we will now in the comics but you get what I mean.

The Angel ending made me angry. The episode itself was very good but that last scene pissed me off. I felt ripped off after watching for the past 5 years...it was like..."This is what I get?"

I loved Buffy's final battle (faith's return, the deaths, the score!) I loved the look and feel of Angel's final episode. And I enjoyed everyone's "perfect day." Angel's finale obviously left me wanting more but I liked the ending.
when it comes down to it, I choose Buffy's finale.

I guess it's about time I said which one I prefer. I'm gunna go with Angel, only just though, I think I like it more but it's so downbeat and depressing and the ending really fits the show.

Yeah, I just watched an episode from season 3, and it was strange and depressing seeing Cordelia, Fred, and non-badass Wesley sitting around talking and knowing that they all die in a space of like 10 episodes. Still, I think it's very fitting for the show.

Also, pertaining to Chosen. Are you telling me that Buffy, her friends and potentials are the only people willing to help out in this fight!?! There is this extremely powerful coven in England that gave Giles powers to fight Willow when she flipped out. What about them? Your telling me that no one had connections to forces with greater power. So the fate of the world is left up to people like Anya and Andrew and a high school principal. I realize this is tv...I just think too much.

Not only does Xander have (faded) military knowledge, the army base (as well as other wepon stores in the city) would surely have been abandoned. Didn't think of any explosive fire power? And the military service Riley is in specialises in demon nests, and less than 10 episodes ago Buffy was in direct contact with them. Silly bint. No wonder they booted her lol Season 7 is so shaky when it comes to logic...

my vote goes to Angel. it was mentioned above that each Buffy season finale had a formula to it which is great and all. i loved Chosen. Not Fade Away breaks the formula, rather than Team Angel aiming to save the world and survive to fight another fight they decide to take down the Circle knowing and accepting it could be the end of their lives. thats powerful. then you add in the fact that you have no idea what happens to the ones that made it to the alley.
Chosen was an amazing episode, it just didnt have the same impact as NFA for me. Chosen defintely was a great way to end the series, it felt complete at the end.

I think the tone was spot on for each finale. Buffy was a more comforting show in general I think. Angel was more about sacrifice.
