I just have a quick question about something that is bothering me in the 5th season of Angel. We all know that Connor has been erased from everybody's memories (except Angel's). But how does this work?? I mean everything was centered around him during seasons 3 and 4 (everything that happened with Holtz and the forthcoming of Jasmine, everything). If you take Connor off their memories, it equals to erasing two years of their lives. So what memories are left of the two past seasons? How can they explain Cordy is in a coma and stuff?
PS: It didn't bother me when it was Dawn because it was the other way around. They just added memories.

Ok... fair enough... I can see I'm a little late on the subject.

I guess a lot of memories were altered, not just deleted. They didn't have memory-blanks. Like with Dawn, some of the christmas memories and such must have been altered.

I always assumed it was like Sky just said... they altered or made new memories same as they did with Dawn, and just took Connor out of the picture. I'm sure all of the mundane things in their heads was still left, so they wouldn't even have missing time.

This is my thought on this topic. I think that maybe the memories were simply altered. Only Connor and all things related to him were removed from their memories. Pretty powerful spell if you ask me. But the Dawn spell is worlds stronger too, very intriguing!

God yes. I have no idea how the monks could have both made 14 years worth of memories, altered a lot of other peoples memories and made a super-being force thing into a human. At least Connor was human to begin with.
That must have been hard. Maybe those monks weren't as humans as they looked. Or their order was ancient so they had time to learn about the key and memory-modification.

I still think it's easier to make up something that never actually existed and add fake memories than erase something that really existed and alter anything that might have been related to that thing.

A conversation between Wesley and Cordelia in You're Welcome:
CORDELIA: (nervously) Wes? Last year, when that, um, higher...whatever took over my body, did those things. Nobody's talking about it.
WESLEY: What's to say? We all understand it wasn't you.
CORDELIA: Do you?
WESLEY: You didn't kill Lilah.
CORDELIA: I know. Still... I'm sorry. I just wanted to tell you that before— Hey! That's them.
(she shows Wesley the book, already opened to an appropriate page)
CORDELIA: Those. The tats. Look.
Ok, obviously they are talking about things that happened while Connor was around. So Wesley remembers the pre-Jasmine crazy pregnant Cordelia and the post Jasmine being born stuff, but not Connor. You think it would be harder to remove someone they all interacted with than to bring in someone new, because doing everyday things people minutely affect things you don't even register sometimes. It makes me wonder how they think Jasmine was killed. It also has me wondering now... if Connor left a sneaker in the hallway, and Fred tripped over it and bruised her knee up, when the memories of Connor got swept away, does she still remember that bruise? Did it still come from an abandoned sneaker, and she thought it was maybe it was Gunn's or would they plant something else like she just tripped over her own feet? They would have to be really good to erase all of the tiny things like that. Or maybe it was just a fog over the memories where Connor was, like they knew there was someone there, just not exactly who and were "programmed" (for lack of a better term) not to be curious as to who it was. Sort of like a cloak, just so they wouldn't notice and let it go? I don't know, now you all have a million different possibilities running through my head! Lol

Here's another thing...if they all still remembered that Cordy had been possessed by a higher being, who was then going to give birth to itself, how did she get pregnant in the first place if Connor wasn't around??? I mean demonic immaculate conception is a bit tenuous!!!! So who was "daddy" in the alternate memory?

I don't think we'll ever find out how much they remember. For all we know, they only remember that Cordy was acting funny. No birth, no world peace, no nothing, just that she was possessed.
