His voice did change a bit but sometimes your voice changes a bit over time from talking so much. He was discovered walking his dog and didn't do much acting previous to Buffy. Eliza Dushku's voice has changed over the years as well but it was due to a voice acting coach, I guess that the way she talked before was hurting her vocal chords. I didn't even know that there was such a thing of ruining your own vocal chords by just talking.

I noticed, that in the later seasons of Angel, DB's voice cracked numerous times.

Isn't it just a part of aging??? I mean, 8 years and many many episodes... it's just a human thing yeah? Not a fault in acting?

His voice changed. But age, late-hours, smoking, and drinking will do that to you! He also got a bit chunkier in the last two seasons.

honestly, i think towards season 5 of angel, he just got kinda bored... i can definately tell he's more angry during season 5... that could've been the W&H change, or Spike, or fred dying.

I didn't notice a change in his voice at all. He got larger but that was because of his knee surgery (he's slimmer again in Bones) but I didn't notice a change in his voice.
I think you'll find that it may have to do with the fact he was given different kind roles to play. He got to be more expressive which changes the tone in anybody's voice.

Whenever I go back to Buffy S1, I'm always amazed and amused by how pointy his hair is. You could stake a vamp on his forehead! ;D

I never did really question his "larger" frame even though he was a vamp in later seasons either, lol. Maybe the pig's blood was chock full o' fat, or he dipped bacon in it like Spike put herbs in his.

Angel's voice takes on a certain weariness after a certain point, but that reflects his changing role over the two shows. In Buffy, he is the lover and has a sexy, gentler tone. In Angel, he is the hero with the burden of the whole world and the tone is drawn and more resigned to the unforgiving nature of his task. I think in this instance, it reflects character rather than the actor losing/gaining his touch.

I think Angel is at his hottest in S5.
You know with Angelus in S4, when he was in the cage it was all mysterious and sexy and then he got out of the cageand was SO annoying. I was like "Why is he opening his mouth?! Someone make his stop!" Maybe that's part of the torture stuffs.

I didn't notice this. The only time I noticed a different in his voice was in the flashbacks when Angelus had the irish accent. I always wondered how Angel lost the irish accent. He did have it even after he was sired by Darla...So where did it go?

I believe as time went on through the series that Angel got more and more worn out. The burden of everything began to overwhelm him and I think one of David's ways of showing that may have been through Angel's voice.

He did have it even after he was sired by Darla...So where did it go? He spent a century in America surrounded by American English accents is where it went. It wasn't exactly a realistic progress of accents shifting over time, but that would be why he loses the accent after he's lived in America for so many years.
