So i was posting on the scrapped episode idea thread in the Buffy section and i began to think... Does/Did Doyle have a soul?
Clearly, he was a force of good who had, literally, and evil alter ego hidden away and can bring it out at will just like Angel/Angelus.
I mean Cordelia obviously had a soul when the Powers that Be made her part demon. was it the same with Doyle?
Pro-Evidence:
Force of good, Anent of the Powers that Be, Visions that are meant for good, died to save countless people, At least part Human.
Con-Evidence:
At least part Demon, from season 2, David Fury planned to bring Doyle back as a big bad, he has demonic powers: Super strength, stamina, speed, healing, etc.
What do yo think?

Of course he had a soul and Doyle never had any bad in him. He was half demon but that didn't mean he was half bad. When he was in his demon form he just looked different and had hightened smell and strength but he was still Doyle. In the episodes we saw Doyle in he was good, he worked for the PTB and sacrificed himself to save countless others... Yes he was going to be brough back as a big bad in season 3 but my guess was that he would still be Doyle but he came back wrong. It is the Buffy/Angel verse so no body mens that they can come back also it was hardly a normal death so he could have came back...mystical deaths and what not'. But yeah IMO Doyle was good through and through in season one of Angel.

Being a demon (even full demon) doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have a soul. It's pretty clear that vengeance demons (at least) have a soul, since Halfrek's soul was the price of Anya's emancipation from the vengeance demon fold. Whether or not that soul is human or not is debatable, but there was a similar discussion on demon souls in general here.

Having a soul doesn't mean that you're good, so wheter Doyle would have turned evil or not doesn't say anything about his soul. Just look Lindsay. He probably had his soul(or maybe he sold it) but he was evil. There are more examples of evil people, both in buffy ahnd the real world. I assume that since he's half human, he has a human soul. I don't know if it's split in half(half human half demon soul) or if it's just a soul. Maybe all creatures have the same kind of soul, but since their brains are different, they act differently. Maybe the sould isn't your consience, maybe vampires losing their souls and becoming evil are sideeffects. Maybe dogs removed of their souls just barks a lot. Maybe if Doyle removed of his soul he would just become depressed. Maybe he doesn't have a soul. It's a very lose term, "soul". Clearly, he was a force of good who had, literally, and evil alter ego hidden away and can bring it out at will just like Angel/Angelus. I mean Cordelia obviously had a soul when the Powers that Be made her part demon. was it the same with Doyle. I wouldn't say that he had alter ego, since his personality didn't seem to change at all when he turn demon-y. His senses just changed, like Angel/Angelus. They can just bring out a certain part of them . We can do it too, kinda, if we focus our strength and powers we can become fighter and such as well. We humans just don't change that much physically. How do we know that Cordy kept her soul when she became part demon?

I think Doyle had a soul just because it's inherent part of being human - UNLESS you're vampafied and therefore LOSE that soul.
Doyle was the product of HALF demon, HALF human, so he automatically had to have a soul right? He wasn't demonified, which I think makes a difference n the having or not having of a soul.

A lot like a vamp who has no soul except the obvious. But slayers have those above and are souled. Assumingly.

Of course he did. His race was never shown to be evil, so not only did he have the human soul, but he had the demon soul as well. (It was one singular soul)
