Again (the first time being on the BtVS sister thread), not surprised. While S5 of AtS doesn't rank highly for me, the latter half does score very high in terms of just how tight the writing became (most likely because of the announcement of the end... production did shut down for a bit to allow Joss time to rewrite/restructure the rest of the season). "Not Fade Away" reminded me why I actually gave a crap about the spin-off featuring the guy with the forehead with limited (but slowly improving and increasing) facial expressions. In under an hour, we get exposition, poignant "if this were your last day, what would you do?" moments, a rousing climax, which in true post-modernist nature, ends with an abrupt denouement that lasts all of thirty seconds, possibly less (the restating of the original mission statement). Throw in probably the most affecting character death on the series (don't get me wrong, Doyle, Cordy, and yes, Fred, didn't suffer from the lack of tragedy) for good measure, and you have the hanky bearers cheering you on for turning them into simpering couch potatoes. Total catharsis in 40+ minutes.

Really awesome to see Not Fade Away so high on the list. My personal favorite Buffyverse episode and hour of TV in general. No matter how many times I watch it, I always get flooded with so much emotion during so many of its scenes (Angel's speeches, Wesley's death, final moments in the alley way). I still get chills during the final moments too, which no other show has been able to do on repeat viewings.
