There has to be some James Bond fans here...
I've been highly anticipating this day for months. Skipped school today, watched Casino Royale, went to the movies, greeted with a free poster and keychain AND there was a display case with props from the previous movies. I was in James Bond heaven.
Mild Spoilers
Now onto the movie itself, I hate to admit I was disappointed. I tried my best to lower my expectations, I wasn't expecting another Casino Royale, that movie was so perfect that it would have been hard to top. And Quantum of Solace REALLY didn't. This isn't a bad movie, I really enjoyed it, but it didn't feel much like a Bond movie.
Most of the movie was action. It was all fast cuts, shaky camera work, and crappy CGI explosions. Everything was happening so fast that it was hard to tell exactly what was happening and who was who. There were a lot of cool moments, though.
Daniel Craig was great, of course, but he really had nothing to do the entire movie but look tough. Judi Dench was great too, as usual. Camille, the main Bond Girl, was a hit and miss. At times incredibly cool, and at others incredibly annoying. The villian, Dominic Greene, was bad. Nothing special, not threatening and the actor portraying him didn't do the character any favors.
The story continued almost immediately after Casino Royale and was pretty exciting. It tied up a lot and the ending was great, but was also left open for next installments.
Quantum of Solace probably doesn't even make it onto my Top 10 list of Bond films, but it's still enjoyable. It lacked a lot of what made Casino Royale such an amazing movie and focused too much on action. It didn't have much heart. There is also an obvious homage to Goldfinger which I found pretty cheap and annoying.
Bottom line, Quantum of Solace is a great action movie, but not a great James Bond movie.
