I had to drag this topic back up, I'm going to see the film tomorrow. Very exciting. I've avoided most spoilers since it premiered in the U.S. and U.K.
I'm so glad it made a great deal of money in it's opening weekend. That says fantastic things for successful television series making the transition to successful films.
It's had somewhat mixed reviews which is to be expected when reviewers have not viewed the series and are middle aged straight men. But from what I've read, it's a huge accomplishment in the fans opinions.
Who here has already seen it? And what are your opinions?
I'm rewatching season six of the series this week so it will all be fresh in my mind. I haven't been this excited for a film in a long time.

I have. I think fans of the show will be very pleased with. It was well written and had a good mix of drama and comedy. It wasn't has racy with the sex scenes as I thought it would be. Miranda I think, had the raciest scene.

my mom & i went to see it the day after it came out and we thought it was really good. we cried basically througout the whole movie since we're cry babies, lol. but the reason for the mixed reviews is basically b/c this movie is more for fans of the series than anyone else. (but they do set it up nicely at the beginning in case someone who didn't watch the series decides to see the movie.) and i find most movie critics don't know what they're talking about and give boring movies great reviews and good movies bad reviews.

I saw it the day it was released-really liked it - the whole audience was female! No surprise there. Definitely a fan movie-If you liked/loved the show, you will love this! Very funny, a little drama thrown in, the clothes, the shoes, and New York! Great acting all the way around-all the guys handled themselves really well on the big screen. I was impressed with all of them. (I knew the girls would kick ass!) Critics are ignorant!

i felt like the only person in the world who wasn't a fully fledged SATC fan, I'd only seen the odd ep here and there and had never really bothered getting in to it. But i still really enjoyed the film and will now probably watch the series. I didn't feel like I'd missed out on much by not watching the series before the movie, but i expect when i watch the series the movie will be a much richer experience

Okay. I saw the film yesterday.
I went in with very high expectations. I've been waiting years for this film! And I have to say, it did fall slightly short. But I still loved every moment of it! I think the reason it fell a little short for me, was it felt like a entire season of storylines compressed into two and a half hours. I walked out of the cinema very happy. I missed these girls more than I thought I would! I loved how Carrie has changed, she has grown so much, I know it sounds strange but I'm oddly proud of her, Miranda had moments where I just wanted to hug her, Charlotte is still adorable and Samantha is Samantha again!
I think out of all the actresses, Kirstin Davis gave the best performance, her emotional scenes were so touching. Everytime she cries I get a lump in my throat.
SJP shone in the scenes after the wedding when she confronted Big. Her narrations are perfect!
I need to see the film again!
I just hope I won't have to wait four years for the second film!

That's pretty cool. I saw the first movie with my friends who were both fans, even though I'd never seen the show. Then immediately after I went out and bought the first season, but I've kind of forgotten about it since then. Maybe I'll watch more of the show in anticipation for this movie.

I'm sort of excited for the new one, I just thought they did a really good job at wrapping things up in the first one and I'm afraid the new one might seem unnessary. However at the same time I love Sex and the City and anything is better than nothing, so I shall go to les theatres and enjoy.
