Brian,
I just wanted to add my thanks to everyone else's for all you have accomplished with Angel and will do with the upcoming Spike and Drusilla.
I hadn't read comics since the '60s before Buffy Season 8 and Angel ATF came out. Thank you for reintroducing me to this medium. If your writing hadn't been so good, I would never have continued buying the comics.
The 60's have given away my age - I am a grandmother (a young one, granted, but still a grandma) and I love the Buffy/Angel verse. I collect action figures as well as multiple issues of the comics. My granddaughter (7 years old) hasn't seen the show nor read the comics but she knows most of the characters. Cordelia (princess costume) in her eyes is beautiful. Once she is old enough, I will give her her own set of the comics.
I hope that you take a look at the FanFic section of SlayAlive. We have some very talented writers and artists. EMMIE has some wonderful stories.
It is wonderful to see so many articulate and creative young people on this site. Involved in discussing Joss's worlds instead of other less healthy pursuits.
Your writing touches so many and fires up their passion and creativity. I think this is something that you can take pride in, as well as your literary gift. You have impressed and perhaps encouraged others to write their own stories. Consider - in time - becoming a mentor to one of our gifted writers. Perhaps Franco would mentor one of our young artists.
Well, enough already. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your gift to me - angel, spike and team.
Hugs to you, Sage

I'd like to add thanks for the great entertainment for After the Fall. I've had some harsh criticisms in past, but I think it was more about seeing potential for making something great even better. As I've said in the past, I think what Lynch delivers most strongly on is his emotional moments. He makes you feel it. Reading Connor's death made me cry. I think we've gotten a better emotional connection with Lynch's works than we have on Season 8. On Season 8, we've got more thematic strengths but the characters are being held a bit at a distance in order for the story to move forward. Basically, I want Whedon's themes/mindbendy stories and Lynch's emotional, in-your-face delivery. Lynch understands how to pace a comic and the space a scene needs to breathe properly.
The things I'm thankful for that Lynch gave us:
- Spot-on Character Voices. - A page-turner with every issue. - Truly laugh-out-loud moments. - Truly heartbreaking moments (Connor, aw). - Wordplay that fit effortlessly into the Whedonverse while still being original. "Untrunk me" comes to mind. Lynch understands the spirit of the wordplay and invents new ones effortlessly. He doesn't regurgitate old Whedonisms but instead creates new ones that fit perfectly and are damned funny. - Hitting the right note of horror, humor, drama and characterization.
If I had to pick my favorite writers of the comics right now for the Whedonverse, it'd be very easy.
Whedon, Lynch, Goddard, Vaughan. No one else has been able to translate the TV world to the comics as effortlessly or make it more fully realized.
I'm not exactly enthralled by Aftermath right now, but I'll most definitely be buying when Lynch's #23-25 come around. I'll be there.

I'd like to point out that I would be happy with the way Connor died in ATF, just because it was so well written. I know it got reversed, but I wouldn't be happy with anyone else's take on it. (Except maybe Whedon).

I agree with you, and I'd love to add (not in opposition to you but in addition) that Lynch is not in the shadow of Whedon to me. He is the only comic writer of Jossthings that has earned my respect and admiration in his own right for the amazing things he brings to the 'verse. I think of Shadow Puppets, and I see Lynch playing with his own ideas - not just Whedons. I think his language and skills are beautiful! I now see "Lynchisms" as much as I see the "Whedonisms" Emmie mentioned. I never thought I'd be a comic person, because I'd never found a comic to be passionate about - and I didn't expect I'd be passionate about the Angel or Spike comics but I AM, and I owe it to Brian for giving me that! Now I have a grounding in the medium and am able to pursue and enjoy other comics as well, always remembering the joy/love/passion i found in Brian's comics! Thanks for starting this thread sagewoman! It's a great feeling to see that Brian is getting the appreciation he deserves, on this board, and from the Whedonfans of the world. And thanks Brian Lynch. Just thanks.
