Kings--The most original new drama that no one is watching. But who can blame the audience? It shows on Saturday night at 8pm, and NBC has all but promoted it. I, myself, have to watch on hulu, seeing as I can never remember/be available to watch it. Despite all that, I'm in love with the show. It's an allegorical retelling of The Bible's David, in modern times. It takes place in a monarchical America, which was only recently founded. (It's fantasy, so don't expect any blatant references to American pop-culture.) It starts off very quickly, and the 90-minute pilot sets up the series better than I could describe here. There are a lot of themes regarding fate and divine intervention, as well as God in general (as opposed to religion). It is wonderfully written, and very well cast. It's also one of the most beautiful shows I've seen on TV for a while. If you like great story telling and beautiful shows, you should check out NBC's 'Kings' on hulu (if in the US of course).

I've watched the first 4 eps, but haven't checked Hulu for the fifth one. I agree that it's a pretty good show, with some pretty good writing. Nothing completely original like Whedon's stuff, but it's kinda like watching The Tudors without the nudity/sex/or JRM and Henry Cavill hotness. The lead's from Eragon though.

I watched the two hour pilot and thought it was pretty good, very interesting and original concept. The next day I saw the ratings and just decided there was no point, so I stopped.

I saw the ratings as well. Though I hate that mentality to be completely honest. Similar to self-fulfilling prophecy, with one indication the masses decide collectively that a show will fail, it inevitably will.
I understand that it's difficult to become invested in shows that are cut short, though I see some merit in supporting shows that aren't mindless sitcoms or ridiculous reality programs despite the heartache that can come.
NBC put it on Saturday nights. They cannot be weighing first-time air ratings that judiciously (and foolhardily against weeknight programs) to decide the fate of the show. If they are, they really shouldn't be running a network.

Yeah, I hate that I did it, but at this point of time in television, it just seems pointless and it's a damn shame. This one person watching it live wont count towards anything, so I thought I'd just save myself from the chance that I'll fall in love with it and then have it taken away.
