Perhaps if Joss had gotten to write the bigger Oz arc he intended for season four, I would feel stronger about him. I'm totally happy to see him in S8, and hopefully he'll be utilised better. What bigger arc did Joss intend for Oz? Never heard about it... I think they intended to draw out the Oz/Willow/Veruca triangle for a bit longer. I always felt Oz was such an under used character. It was quite frustrating when he left in s4 as it felt like he was finally getting to be his own character as oppose to Willow's bf.

My biggest concern is what kind of of wolf they'll have in the comics. Jeanty said Dark Horse are pushing for the larger "Phases" werewolf, which I much prefer to the smaller version that appeared later. What do you guys want? I didn't know that. From what I understand, most people hated "Gorilla" Wolf, but I always really liked his post- Phases design. It didn't look like a traditional werewolf, which I thought was pretty neat. I really don't think they should return to his first wolf in Retreat. That would just seem odd. Oh, I hate the gorilla wolf with a fiery vengeance. Hate it. They had a perfectly good wolf in "Phases" (two-legged, snouty werewolves are my favourite) and they turned it into that monstrosity. It's laughable, and seriously detracts from otherwise great scenes. They used the traditonal werewolf in the Oz comic book series, and Jeanty said during one of his Q&As (his first one?) that Dark Horse are planning to use it again since there are no budget problems. Screw continuity, gorilla-wolf must never be seen again. ^ "Phases" werewolf FTW. Perhaps if Joss had gotten to write the bigger Oz arc he intended for season four, I would feel stronger about him. I'm totally happy to see him in S8, and hopefully he'll be utilised better. What bigger arc did Joss intend for Oz? Never heard about it... I heard, and I can't remember where from (possibly the DVDs), that Joss intended the Veruca storyline to span the entire season. When Seth Green left the show, the writers had to condense the story into one episode, which is why it feels kind of rushed.

I did like that the first wolf could walk on two legs. Was never a fan of its face though. The gorilla wolf's makeup always seemed more lifelike to me. That won't be an issue in Retreat though, so I doubt I will mind much which wolf they use.

First off, awesome thread. I really do want Oz to stay for a long time. Go that!
I hope that they make the wolf less gorilla-y. I liked that the first one was able to walk on two feet, and that it didn't look so odd. I was never a fan of all the wavy long hair and the like. I'm very much so looking forward to Retreat, to see what they're going to do when they don't have a budget to worry about.

That won't be an issue in Retreat though, so I doubt I will mind much which wolf they use. That's why they changed it. According to one of the commentaries (can't remember which) the design was changed because the original wolf costume was expensive and they were unable to get the face to move like they wanted. Anyway, I'd like it if in Retreat wolf Oz looked more like the original design. Obviously with drawings you can do much more and you don't have to worry about a budget.

Venus would be so happy. If she (I think it was a she) believed that Oz was actually coming back that is...

Hehe she will probably STILL be denying that Oz has returned, even after #26 comes out. Just thought of her when I saw Paul's rant about the werewolf design, since for some inexplicable reason, she decided to go monkey feces and give me a lecture on what a werewolf should look like. Bizarro lady, indeed. And hey, AtF is over... and whoops, no Oz there. So that's two strikes for our lovely forum troll.

I don't care which form they use for the werewolf, both were unbelievably ridiculous looking. I think Joss described them as going from a "big gay possum" to a "horny gorilla". But it seems like it'd work a lot better in comic book form. They should just go nuts and use them both, we did learn in Unleashed that there are different looking breeds. And I miss Venus.

Come on people!!! Only 8% on my side? Technically 4% then. There must be some anti-Oz fans out there. Use your right to free speech and come vote!

Paul: Sorry dude, but your werewolf tirade just sparked a memory. However, be glad that you can string about a cohesive argument without going on all sorts of bizarre tangents that are half offensive, and the rest amusing.
mathieu: Venus was a member here. She no longer is... in short, yes, she's banned.

Andrew: I think we were a little more patient with her. I think I tried to reason with her for a while (pre-Mod days)... and kinda gave up when she kinda proved to be more than a tad batty. But hey... enough about her... good riddance and all that, I guess. So... Oz... the werewolf design could be something to ask Jeanty this coming Q&A. I've confirmed it with him... it's a go, and he promises to try and be quick with the answers.

I'll admit it and say I'm in the minority and always preferred "Gorilla-Wolf" as well. I think Werewolves would have to be the most difficult supernatural creature to create on film EVER. I have never seen a werewolf, even in big budget movies like 'Underworld', that I haven't thought looked just a bit stupid. I thought the 'Phases' one looked more fake and liked the Btvs twist on his new costume. He was more ferocious because he was faster and more agile. I think they finally got his costume down just right by ‘Wild Things’ but unfortunately that’s just when he was leaving So I’m a little sad we won’t have Guerrilla-Oz in the comics

Oh there was one in the third movie wasn't there? It's been such a long time since I read the books or seen the movies? I don't think that one looked too bad but they still look a little silly to me. I don’t know why it never works out (for me at least) considering some of the fantastic things they can do with special effects these days. I mean, I don’t understand how a gigantic alien tripod creature in ‘War of the Worlds’ can look better than a werewolf? lol

You're right... Lupin did go all wolf in the third movie. I totally forgot about him. I think the problem with werewolves is that they haven't found the right balance in terms of how they move. Just about every werewolf I've seen on screen moves in an apelike (i.e. swinging on things, extreme agility and dexterity, etc) instead of just seeming more wolflike. I mean... the Wargs in The Two Towers looked really cool, but that's coz they just made them look a little more hyena-like than wolf (they thought wolves weren't weird looking enough, I guess). Perhaps werewolf folks could try something like that instead...
