I am starting this new thread because I just saw on the Internet that Susan Boyle just lost Britain's Got Talent after the huge hype around her last performances and I'm like what?? Really? What happened there? And of course it brings us back to the other front runner of this year's American Idol, Adam Lambert, who lost to Kris Allen.
So what happened to these folks? We don't vote for front runners?

I don't watch Idol at all but I read that Adam most likely lost because middle america, who supposely supply a majority of the votes, liked Kris' all-american look more so than Adam's rebel look. I'm of course paraphrasing. I also think that the voters believed that Adam would be a star regardless of the outcome. The amount of popularity he has gained should help him land a very sizable record deal.
As for Susan Boyle, got to agree with EWR. She seemed to have trouble adjusting to the limelight that was surrounding her and she looked so thrilled when she came in second. I really believe that she has come out of this with as much a winner if not more so.

I agree, Susan's performance in the final last night just wasn't as good as it could have been.
Diversity - the dance troupe who won - were AMAZING, and the deserved winners, I think.
Susan will go on to have some sort of a career in this, I think, but she'll do so without all the pressure that winning the competition would have brought.

i think a lot of the British public were getting sick of the publicity Susan Boyle was getting in so many different countries a lot of people were just getting sick of hearing about her she has a great voice, but it isn't as special as people make it out to be
Diversity really DESERVED to win the trouble with Britains Got Talent (unlike American Idol) is that they're doing different acts
Diversity dance, Susan sings it's not so much a matter of talent with the public, it's more a matter of which they prefer they're both talented acts, but it's hard to say which is more talented since they're doing totally different things

I remember the previous winner...I think his name was Paul Potts. He did pretty much the same thing as Susan Boyle (great voice from an unexpected source).

As I don't watch these sorts of shows I can't really judge anything but from what I can gather in the case of Susan Boyle she was an overnight sensation after the first show but then in the next few shows heading up to the live semi-finals other acts started to come through and Susan looked less special when compared to them.
From what I can gather about Adam there seems to be some discussion over whether there was some vote rigging or that his possible homosexuality turned voters off. WOuld be a damned shame if wither of those were the case as people should be chosen for their talent, not lose through cheating or the ignorance of the voters (although after the Prop 8 scandal in California, voting against gays is becoming something of a sport in America).

You must be kidding, right? Voting IN FAVOR of gay rights has become a national sport in the US. Iowa, Vermont and Maine have just legalized gay marriage over the past months and New Hampshire is next on the list, probably around next week as the bill that had to be modified to protect religious institutions will probably head back to the governor's desk. Same sex marriage is currently being discussed in NY and RI too. I think they also passed a new law in DC that recognizes the same sex marriages from out of state. So yeah, I think California is the exception right now.

I do hope so. I will admit being a Brit I don't see much of the US news on equality legislation but am glad all those states have shown some wisdom in allowing same-sex couples to marry (or at least be recognised).
I have a feeling then that california will be overturned. Plenty of stars have spoken out including Aly and Amber

They might decide to put the issue on the ballot again. Sorry for assuming you should know about Maine and Vermont and all that stuff, for some reason I thought you lived in the US...

Nope, live in "sunny" Scotland. Ahah ok, well at least I gave you the opportunity to catch up on what's going on over here regarding the "gay agenda"! (I'm using the word agenda as sarcasm)

Hey, I'm glad of any state or country that recognises equality for gay people. Speaking as a straight guy, it annoys me that I cna marry anywhere in the world pretty much but those friends I have who are gay cannot. I think its wrong that they can't so I'm happy to see some states in the USA getting that right. Hopefully California will soon.

That's funny I always assumed you were gay considering the amount of time you've spent defending the Willow/Tara couple and how wrong it was to kill off Tara. But now, you have gained a whole new due respect from me. Your cause was actually very selfless.

Thanks for the respects. truth is i get that mistake alot. partially cos i use AMber's name in my ID, and also because I'm so vehement in my opposition to that whole storyline. So you're not the first and I doubt you will be the last
