Anyone else who through the most part of Double or nothing thought "Oh, God, did Gunn force some poor girl to fall in love with him?" when they talked about this "she" that Gunn wanted?
A part of me thought "It must be his sisters life he's trading for", but a part of me feared the worst. Then it turns out to be the truck.
Before we found out that tough, we have this creepy conversation.
What do you guys think Fred meant?
"Aww, you saved your girlfriend's life" or "Aww, you got a love spell put on a girl" or something else?

I don't see anything disturbing about that moment. I think Fred knew that Gunn was a good man and because she loved him she wanted to not only find out what happened but to also hear his side of things. I think Fred believed Gunn had made that deal with only the best of intentions.
The "You musta wanted her pretty bad" line could be interrupted many ways. One interruptation could be that Fred implying that Gunn loved a girl so much that he'd trade his soul in order to protect her or help her. Personnally I like to think Fred used that line as bait to get Gunn to defend himself and by default open up about his true motives.
Lets be honest, if he had admitted to selling his soul in order to manipulate someone I'd imagine that scene would have played out very differently.

Lets be honest, if he had admitted to selling his soul in order to manipulate someone I'd imagine that scene would have played out very differently. Definitly. Writing about a world with love potions and spells is different from letting a main character use it. That would be major. I still get a bad vibe from that scene.

True story; we'd be dealing with the consequences of Supersymmetry a full ten episodes or so early.

I posted this thread on Buffyboards too, and they seemed to think it wasn't creepy, even if Gunn had sold his soul for a girl. So I posted this there;
Imagine that you're living your life as usual. You have bad days, good days, maybe you love someone, maybe you're very lonely.
Then one day, some selfish little prick decides he wants to make you his. He's in love, he wants to make you happy. But on his terms.
He sells his soul to a demon to get you. A spell is cast. A part of you changes. You're in love with a guy you may or may not have liked before.
You might never find out about the spell. You might even be happier than ever before. But you won't be you. Not entirely, because someone else has changed you against your will.
To me, in a way, that's a lot more scary than the thought of someone slipping a sleeping-pill in your drink, or being sold to trafficing. Because you're not you.

At the time, I thought it meant he sold his soul to save a girl he loved.

At the time, I thought it meant he sold his soul to save a girl he loved. That's what I thought too. So no, never saw this scene as creepy. But I guess it's a matter of perspective.

Same as Brian and Wexi. I don't see anything creepy about it in the least.

I never really thought much about this exchange. I thought it meant that Gunn did want a girl to fall in love with him before it was revealed to be a car. Never really considered it to be creepy. You do make a good point though, Sky.

I just figured it was another woman that he loved. Perhaps she was in trouble and needed help I wasn't exactly sure. Gunn had proven himself to be a good man so I wasn't too worried.
