Is at this link."When Jane's arc wraps up, things will be significantly different for the organization. The slayer organization will be in really, really bad shape and it's going to bring about real, major transformational changes for Buffy herself."So it looks like this arc will bring us a) the Big Betrayal, and b) a hellacious body count. I'm scared.

Yeah, the fact that Joss himself is writing #31 must mean that something big is going down. This is very exciting.

The worst part is, once we hit the nadir of Act II... the time of Maximum Pain and Hopelessness... at the end of this arc, it will be months and months before we get resolution rather than a few weeks like on the TV show.
More pain, longer! Welcome to Season 8.

Hopefully that will keep us on our toes...
I'm thinking #31 might be where Angel (and Spike?) make an appearence. Didn't Joss say at New York Comic Con that Angel would show up "probably when it hurts the most"? Sounds like it'll be around that time. Plus Joss writing.

that might be him teasing us again considering Angel has already made two dream appearances and buffy tends to have alot of strange and/or important dreams when things get hairy...not that I wouldn't love to see Angel in season eight.

Here is something else that was said at Comic Con: "Regarding "Buffy," Joss Whedon is writing issue #31 and Brad Meltzer writes issue #32. The current story-arc penned by Jane Espenson ends with "something that'll have Buffy fans freaking out and really angry," according to Allie. Whedon will also write a one-shot in December focusing on Willow. The basic framework for a ninth season of "Buffy" has been outlined, and Allie said that he knows how season eight ends."

Started a thread for #30 for that little bit of info. Figured people would like a place to start officially speculating.

So are we taking this to mean issue #31 is a one-shot care of Joss, then Brad Meltzer's arc will be #32 - #35 as a standard four issue arc, then either another one-shot followed by Joss' final four issue arc or he'll use the last five issue to make up the final arc like Retreat.

Pretty much, yes. It sounded like #31 is a one-shot, but that it kinda kicks off Meltzer's arc. Could be that he just wrote the first part of the arc... sounds like Joss is pretty involved in Meltzer's arc anyway.

Pretty sure 31 is just Joss kicking off the new arc and then handing the rest to Meltzer. Kinda like writing the first act of an episode and letting someone else handle the rest. As to Oz being Twilight, pretty sure that one's been negated thanks to the solicit for 29 but...god how I hope he's not. He fits in a lot of ways and it would just be way too damn unfair. Maybe he's in with Twilight's team at least? Ugh x.x

As to Oz being Twilight, pretty sure that one's been negated thanks to the solicit for 29 If you're referring to the bit about Amy being the one to discover them, that could just be a pretext to allow Oz to keep his cover as Twilight. It's like in World War II after the Allies broke the German codes... they knew right where all the German submarines were, but they couldn't simply go destroy them all without tipping the Germans off to the fact their code had been broken. So they would pick a cluster of subs and make a big show of flying an air reconnaisance mission over that area... that way the Germans would just assume they'd been spotted from the air. The burning monastery on the #29 cover is a bit of a sticky point. My theory is that those monks are themselves Twilight (an organization) and that Buffy & Co. are basically taking refuge right in the middle of the enemy headquarters. But would Twilight be willing to destroy their own monastery to get at Buffy or to maintain the illusion that they're friendly? I don't know.

I know that the Willow one-shot, and #31 aren't the same. It's a little ambiguous right now as to whether Joss is just writing the first act, as you put it, or really writing a one-shot that will still lead into Meltzer's arc. Hence my comment that "it kinda kicks off Meltzer's arc" or that "he just wrote the first part of the arc". As standalones are usually still placed under the blanket of either the arc directly preceding or following it, it's not inaccurate to err on the side of caution here. We will see in a couple of months when the solicitations are released.
